Perfect weather everywhere dn the wheat belt , primary re ceipts unprecedented at this time of the year , lower cables from both England and the continent and the entire absence for de- iniiml for casli wheat were a few of the Stems In the early batch of news which brought long wheat Into the market In great quantities. But the shorts ap peared to be the only buyers and the market - kot fell of Its own weight to 70Vio and closed nt 70-c , a not loss of % fllc. Kino weather for growing corn and lib eral receipts were again too much for corn bulls , nnd with a weak wheat market the combination In favor of flhort sellers could not have been hotter. Primary receipts wer 873,000 bu. Compared with 4H.OOO bu. a year apo. With this news ns a starter Sep tember opened He lower at SZ'A SZ c. Intense Dnlliienn of the Market Con- tlniien to lip the Main Venture. NBW YORIC , July 19.-The Intense dull ness of the stock market continued to bo the main feature of the trading today as for some time past. Not only was It trus of the New York market , but of the conti nental and London markets ns well , and speculation at different exchanges In the United States was reported In the sam ? dull nnd neglectPd condition. The whole specu lative world maintained Its waiting nttl- tudn. Many factors which have been ad duced to account for the hesitation have been successively eliminated and the hesi tation still persists. The bears took some heart of grace from this continued disinclination to advance and rnntlo quit ? a vigorous attack > n the New York marked late today. Earlier gains In some of the specialties were wiped out. notably In the tobacco stocks. In Sugar and In Steel and Wire , nnd the whole mar ket droppfd to the low level of the day. Missouri Paclflo nnd Wabash preferred led the decline , the Utter with a ne't loss of l',4. The grangers nil weakened sharply nnd Atchlnon preferred was notably heavy In tone. Brooklyn Transit lost the greater part , of yesterday's gain and Manhattan dropped a point below last night. Metro politan Street railway , on the contrary , re sisted the declining tendency and clonxl un changed. Federal Steel common foil away heavily 2 points In the Into trading , al though the public announcement that the jndlclnn Injunction against the distribution of the dividend declared on the stock had been continued , was not made until after the market's close. New York Air Brake made a meteor dis play on yesterday's Judicial decision , affirming the validity of on of Its patents. The stock opened up 17 points nnd then fell 20 points and closed with a net decline of 1 .pnin't. ' The close -was at 200 bid nnd 220 asked. The market enjoyed a period of some strsngth early In the day , but the transactions were on such a small scale as to lend little significance to 'the ' move ment of prices. Money continued to work rather lower , but Is still above the rates at other domestic centers. Fears ot the gold movement seem to exercise a reflex Influ ence between London and New York. New York Is In fear that the monsy stringency in London nnd on the continent will draw gold .from here as our rates work lower. London is In fear that the coming export movement of merchandise from the United States will ompbaslzs the stringency abroad and so prolong the stagnation of speculation. The consequence Is a waiting attitude at all points. Bonds were intensely dull and prices moved sluggishly. Total sales , par value , $1,801,000. United States 3s , coupon , ad- vanc < l > 4. old 4a , registered , and the new 49. registered. YIn the bid price. The New York Commercial Advertiser's London financial cablegram says : The markets here were more cheerful today on the Transvaal's apparent surrender nnd the easiness of money , but the Intense heat checked business. Americans were heavy on the strike news , but nt the close were sllphtlv harder on New York buying. Sev enty-eight thousand pounds sterling gold in bars were brought in by 'the ' bank and 107,000 came in from Holland. The week's Influx was 620,000. The bank did nothing in t'ho ' market , holding bills back expecting further ease. There was nothing particularly new to ac count for the rise except that the English cables were somewhat better and crop ac counts somewhat less favorable , but only small In either case. Th ? feature of the English news was the Indication of sus tained , If ot Increased. Interest In spot cotton * t Liverpool , tending to confirm the proposition that American cotton was wanted for foreign consumption to meet the requirements of orders for cotton goods extending well Into the future. Private ca bles were quite , pronounced on "this " point and gave considerable encouragement , es- pclally In keeping with an Increased' for eign demand for futures Been at this point today. Wel&h parties wcro also- good buy ers throughout the session , but the coverIng - Ing was the principal feature. The shorts were ths principal buyers. The deficiency of rainfall In the cotton states was a po tent factor In deciding the shorts to cover. This figured up sine * 'March ' 1 as follows : Columbia , 8. Indicating an ab sence O'f rain over a large i art of the gulf and South Atlantic states during the last week , also Increased the apprehensions of the bears , with the conditions of the east ern portions of the cotton belt less favora ble than last week's and the crop having suffered not only from drouth , but from Insects. S75 3 75 HOGS Yesterday's advance of 15c waa olloW'Jd by another good stiff advance oilay. The early sales were 100150 higher than yesterday , the first sales belnu at J4.25iN.35 , but larsrely at $4.27H. The first sixty or seventy loads sold quite readily at the prices noted , which on an avsrope was 12Vfco hleher. Some of the heaviest buyers , however , were on the bear side , and seemed detsrmlned not to nay the advance. They were willing to put on lOe , but no more , while sellera aa a rule were hanclne on for a full 15o advance. This naturally rendered the market a little slow , ns both sides were stubborn , and for that r.'ason it took longer than an a good many days to effect a clearance , In fact toward the close the market slowed up and became quite dull , under the Influence of a r- ported easier close at Chicago. A good ehlpplnp demand helped It out. so that most everything was sold by 11 o'clock , Hoe sold today on an average at the highest point toucbid since May 23 of last year , SWNOc higher than one year ago , 95c higher than two years ago and $1.35 higher than three years ago , Representative sajes : No Av.
