Tht being the cast and tf the reports from

exceptionally high prices during the fall and

an average and the string bean output is
also expected to be light in the t'juth. From
the best information the puck of Maryland

authorities ebUmate it as not oer So per

taken hold of peas at the prices packers

Scarcity and high prices also prevail upon

articles so far packed In Maryland and
Delaware at reasonable prices are red and
white cherries. Of the latter there has
been a fair pack of extremely line quality
poods , superior to what packers have been
able to pet for many years. .
The pack of nearlv all wnall fruits , both
In the south and in New Tork state , was
exceptionally light. The New Tork state
pack of ttran berries ls < said to have been
not over 50 per cent of that of last year.

CATTLE Sometimes the cattle market 1
good on a Saturday , but tSis was not one
of the timea. Buyer * took the bear side
from the -very opening and the market was
Klo\r from mart to finish As a rule it
would be perfeitly safe to call it 10c lower.
Sellers vere backward about takinc off and
the forenoon was well advanced before a
clearance was effected. Cows and heifers
were In small eupjJy and the good kmdb
did not show much change , though buyer *
were not very keen after them. Calves
were slow and the market lower Very
little was doing in the stocker and feeder
division
Il-ceipts of rattle , as will be noted from
the table of receipts , were liberal this week ,
being somewhat larger than for the week
before , though hardl ; up to the lecord of
two wseks ago T&e market a a w hole w as
good and sat'hfactory to the sellers Values
were firm all the week up until Frida > ,
uhen the clobe w-a * a little lower etpeclahy
on the light cattle and the less desirable
kinds ol all wecghts. How eve- , there was
little change in values until me last of the
week , when buyert succeeded in forcing
some concession. The market at the close
of the w eek on good fat cattle was ] 0c low er
than at the clos-e of the previous week and
1&S13C lower on the lighter or more com
mon cattle On most days the market was
acm under the Influence of a good de
mand.
Dry lot cows and heifers are becoming
% ery t-carce and the receipts ths week were
light BO that -\aluei > on that kind of stuff
did nut fcbow anyx ery material -change.
On the other hand prat" cow- were in
larger supply and for the week the market
coula bt quoted 15CT23C lower Grass- bulls
are also lower. In about the same proportion
tion as grass oowb. Good cornfed bulls.
however were good tellers ail the week and
prices ha-e not changed materially.
Good licht Block cuttle and good heavy
feeders suitable to go on immediate feed
were nought after u little more eagerly
this week and prices were "omewnat better
on that kind. The betwixt and between
cattle that were neither good feeders nor
good rtock cattle were slow. The volume
of businer. . however , doing in this depart
ment is bmall and dt is mill too early to
expect very much. Representative faaJe .
