SIOUX FALLS , S. D. , June IS. ( Special. )
Efforts to capture Stephen Clark , the
Hutchlnson county farmer who , on the 9th
inst. , shot his wife and 15-year-old daughter ,
have , up to this writing , proved unsuccess
ful. It Is reported that the fugitive was
in the little town of Ethan , Davlson county ,
all day Sunday following his crime , but
that none of the residents felt like taking
the risk of attempting to arrest him , as he
still retained the rifle and two revolvers
which he procured prior to his flight. Clark
reached Ethan early In the morning and
took breakfast at a private house. He con
cealed himself about town all day and in
the evening left for the north , following the
Milwaukee railroad track.
After going some miles north Clark
changed his course and headed westward.
His trail was followed to the Missouri river
south of Chamberlain by a posse of officers ,
who ascertained that he crossed the stream
on a ferry boat , having BO great a start of
the officers that he had completely disap
peared before the arrival of the officers at
the river. He Is probably now somewhere
In the interior of the ceded Sioux lands ,
lying between the Missouri river and tlio'
Black Hills , with ihe Intention of csiaplns
to that region or to Wyoming.
