CATTLIC Today's cattle receipts ivere the
largest of any day since Tuesday of three
xvecks ago. Thai of Itself was a bear argu
ment , but In addition to that was the ex
pectation of a very large run and a much
lower market at Chicago for Wednesday.
Kansas City reported a slow and weak inur-
k < t , which nl o had its influence upon the
trade here. The result of these bear In-
llnencps was that buyers started out bid
ding as a rule lOc lower on be-f steers ,
that Is , 15fi20f lower than last week. Sales
men naturally worked hard Io hold up the
market , which made the irnde rather sloxv ,
no that It took n. long time to effeet a clear
ance. In the end the catlle changed hands ,
but the general market would have to be
quoted Offline loxvcr for the two days this
wek , the tidy little cattle selling at the
least iiecllne.
Tlie market on cow. * nnd heifers was
steady to a litlle loxver In some cases. ISuy-
trs felt that they ought to buy coxv stuff
lower on account of the sharp break on fat
cattle , but at the same time there was such
a good demand and so fexv cown and heifers
on snlo that they had hard work to force
any concussion. Most sellers claimed to have
.sold their cows and heifers at steady prices.
Kut bulls were very slow , and it was no
easy matter to get u buyer to look at them.
Light stock bulls wire good sellers.
Stockers sold as xvell as any time. In spite
of the decline on fat steers. Some nice
yearling stuff brought J3.10. The offerings
xvere ol very moderate proportions , and the
supp y on sale was soon fxhausted. Rep
resentative pales :
