NEW YORK , March 15. The changes In
stock prices today were mixed , with losses
prevailing. For the greater part of the day
stocks were under pressure , In part duo to
the strength In the call money market ,
where 5 per cent was recorded for some
loans , although most of the business was
at 4 jier cent.
London , while trading both ways , dis
posed of more stock than It took. The soilIng -
Ing of Manhattan was attributed to the
underwriting syndicate of the Issue of new
stock , although there was no means of as
certaining the real source. The stock closed
with a loss of nearly 2 points after an
earlier extreme decline of 3H points. Kan-
fias City , Pltt.-burg & Gulf left olT I points
down In anticipation of a possible heavy
assessment In the plan of reorganization.
American Steel and Wire dropped 1-S , witn
a smaller sympathetic recession In Federal
Steel Issues. There were fractional reces
sions , too , In Northern KiclHes , Atehlsons ,
the Reading. * . and the grangers.
Chlc-igo Terminal stocks were benefited
by talk ot a contract with Chicago
Alton , while Colorado Southern was up on
rumors of negotiations with Union Paclllc ,
Brooklyn Rapid Transit got within a small
fraction of par In expectation that another
system was about tobe acquired , but the
Interests concerned largely in such a deal
were uncommunicative.
American Tobacco rose 2 points , but Con-
tlnntal Tobacco , now dealt In In the un
listed department , made , compared With the
oenlnj : , a net loss * of VA for the common
and R for the preferred. New York Air
Brake jumped 10U points. Conlllcllng <
rumors regarding iho probability of the (
micco s of certain lpglnlutlon lent feverishness -
ness to Consolidated Gas , which , however ,
rose ? i. Metropolitan Street Railway , Pee
ple's Has and Sugar gave some evidence of
strength.
A slight recession In the strength of call
money , although It closed with transactions
at 3i ! and 4 , Induced some covering in the
afternoon. The closing tone was uncertain
with prices below the best and above the
worst. The government trade statistics ,
showlnc an excess of exports of nearly
$31,000,000 , were not altogether favorably re
ceived , because of the Imports exceeding
any since March a year ago , while the ; x-
porta showed a shrinkage ot over 20 per
cent , compared with any of the preceding
four months.
Today's bond market , while Irregular ,
showed a yielding tendency , with extreme
weakness In Kansas City , Plttsburg &
Gulf lirsts. Total sales. J2.530,000. United

CATTLE Less than thirty loads of corn-
fed beef steers wore reported on pale , which
wu-4 not enough to go the rounds among
buvers. At the same time there was a
good demand on the part of locu.1 packurs
and buyers were all out early , with Uio
evident Intention of picking up ns many
cattle as possible. The result waa that
the market was active at prices that were
nil the way from strong to lOc higher. AB
there were so few here , the pens were HOOU
cleared. Owing to the fact that the quar-
Ity of the cattle was rather common , the
sales below do not show up to very good
advantage * .
The market on cows and heifers was also
in good Miapo and the moderate offerings
were soon disposed of at steady to a. little
stronger prlcts. The condition of the mar
ket as regards bulls was not materially
changed from what It was yesterday or the
day before. Veal calves sold at the same old
prices.
Not many stockcrs or feeders were to be
found In the yards , at least not In llrst
hands. The weather conditions are against
there being a good demand for stockers or
feeders , and probably any very largo run
wou.d have witnessed a lower market , but
ns there were very few cattle here thu mar
ket did not show much If any ohainju. Rep

SHEEP As compared with vcatrrdav
there w.is a small run today , but what wals
still more Important , the character of the
renlptB was not such as to stimulate the
market. A good many of the arrival" wore
not fat enough to suit the packers. Tlu-re
was , however , a good active demand for
desirable muttons , both , heep and lambs ,
and the market on such could not be | Uoted
as otherwise than fully steady. Prartlca'.lv
