Returns from all but eleven preclncU In Cook county show that the republicans have elected their entlro ticket with the excep- tlon of two judge * of the superior court. Of the six judges-elect the republicans have secured four. The pluralities of the repub lican candidates In the county run all the wny from 12.000 to 27,000. the latter being the plurality of rnhlll , the candidate for clerk of ths criminal court. All the late returns have been distinctly favorable to tbc republicans and their pluralities now exceed nil predictions made regarding them last night. The vote , however , shows a decided Jailing off on the part of the rp- publlcang , ns McKlnley carried the county by 70,000. OHIO , Hi'imlillennn Celeliriile ( .rent Victory lit nil "Off Year" mill Donlilr niiNluirll'H IMnrulltj- . CO LCIMBl'S. O. . Nov. P. Additional re turns today do not materially change the result announced last night of over 60,000 republican plurality on the state ticket and fifteen republicans to nix democratic con gressmen. The republicans are celebrating the election of ns many congressmen In what Is known as the "off year" as they elected at the last presidential election , while they more than doubled the plurality of 28,000 for Bushncll for governor last year. In the odd years a governor and full state ticket with members of the legislature arc elected every two years , while In the alternate or even y-sars a few minor state offlcpra with congressmen are elected , as was the case yesterday , but the alternate or even years como once In four years with tlio presiden tial campaign so that the "off year" comes only once In four years and always two jears after the presidential election. The republicans have historically lost in Ohio In , " " 'Cleve three "off yearn" except when land v > as president , when the democrat ! ) had the same cxpenenco because of disap pointments , disaffection , etc. Whlls the result may not be regarded as specially significant It Is very surprising. Politicians on both sides say that President McKlnley Is the first republican pivaldeat ( o get the endorsement of this sUte In Ilio "oft year ' of his administration. Ch.Urr.mn Dujghcrly "f the republican state conmlttiKattributes the result to the seu'lrjent for such en dorsement. Chairman Blcecker of the democratic state committee says the result was duo to the administration's conduct of the war. The democratic managers arc ro- Jolclng over what , they call the "sore ipots ' of the victors. It Is stated that none of the state departments or Institutions under Goxcrnor iiushnell contributed to the re publican state committee but to the de feat of Hugglns In this congressional dis trict , uhlle the plurality of Congressman Weaver of Spilngfleld In the Seventh dis trict , the homo of Govenor Iiushnell , was reduced from 2,250 two years ago to only 230 yesterday. When Chairman Kurtz and Mayor Mc- Klhson were leading a bolt last year Gov ernor Hushnell was called on to protest and the entire state administration Is said to have been used In opposing Weaver's election. COLUMBUS , Nov. 9. Until noon today the returns Indicated that the republicans had carried the same fifteen congressional districts and * the democrats the same six districts as In the presidential election of ] SG ! ) , but this afternoon the democrats claim the election of Zimmerman over Weaver In the Seventh. It will require the official count to determine the result In th t district , but such returns us bavo been received Indicate that the republicans have won In all the districts except the Second , Third , Fourth and Twelfth. Some doubt as to the result In the Fifth and Eighth districts Is still expressed by the demo crats. From the returns at hand It would appear that the republicans will have a majority In both branches of the legislature and a majority on Joint ballot of about 16. CALIFORNIA. California has elected a republican governor and probably the entlro state ticket by pluralities es timated at from 5,000 to 20,000. The republicans have swept everything before them , and John D. Sprockets , the California member of the , republican national committee , claims the , election of six out of seven congressmen. There Is some doubt regarding the election ! of Dovrles , democrat , In the Second , who two years ago defeated Congressman Grove L. Johnrou by 8,000 , but Devrles will prob ably win by n small margin. In tbo Fourth district , represented for three terms by James G. Magulre , Kahn ( rep. ) , has been elected by 2,000 plurality over Barry ( dem. ) , and Barlow and Castle are prob ably defeated for re-election In the Sixth and Seventh districts respectively. This doubt Is based on the fact that a number of western coun ties In the district have not yet been heard from. Returns from the state of Washington are yet Incomplete , but enough are at hand to make It certain that the republicans have overcome the fusion majority of 12,000 of two years ago , elected both congressmen and two supreme court justices by a majority of at least 3,000. Later returns will , it Is thought. Increase rather than diminish this estimate. The legislature , which will elect a United States senator , will bo republican on Joint ballot , by at least 40 , out of a membership of 112. This estimate gives the fuslonUts all the doubtful districts. They retain con trol of the senate. The legislature now stands : Senate , republicans , 15 ; fuslonlsts , 19. House , republicans , 61 ; fuslonlsts , 17. The two amendments to the state constitu tion woman suffrage and local option In municipal taxation are overwhelmingly de feated. The republicans attribute their vlc- . tory largely to the latter amendment , which I they made a direct Issue , claiming that U I was "single tax. " They also assign credit 'l to the sentiment In favor of sustaining the national * j.ninlstratlon. The fuslouists ascribe their defeat to the light vote , which was from 15,000 to 20.000 less than two | years ago , and to the fact that single tax was an Issue. MICHIGAN. DETROIT , Nov. 9. The results of the state election are unchanged by any late returns or estimates. Governor Plngroe'a plurality Is placed at about 53,000. It nearly holds Its own with the governor's plurality 01 two years ago proportionately to the size | of the vote cast. All the congressmen elected are republicans. The legislature , i which Is to elect a United States senator for I ths full term , stands politically about as fallows : Senate , twenty-nine republicans , ' thrco democrats ; house , ninety-three repub licans , seven democrats.
