Omaha has become a veritable mccca for railway magnates. During the next few days more distinguished railroad officers will visit the exposition city than have ever en tered Its gates before. Railroad presidents , general managers and general counsels have become quite OB numerous as traveling pas- conger agents ordinarily are. One official parly Is now assembled at the Union Pacific headquarters preparatory to making the trip to Salt Lake City for the company's annual meeting. Among those noticed In thu executive offices of the road yesterday were : Chairman Harrlman of tha directory's executive committee , General Counsel Wlnslow 8. Pierce , Director T. Jef ferson Coolldge , President Horace G. Hurt , General Solicitor William II. Kelly , Secre tary Alexander Millar and Attorney Law- rrnco I ) . Orecr. During the morning General Counsel Pierce of New York had a confer ence with General John C. Cowln , the gov ernment's representative In the settlement of mattorn connected with the foreclosure Bale. It had been expected that the official party would leave for the annual meeting In Salt Lake- City on Friday afternoon , but the Indications now are that the start will not bo made before Saturday afternoon. The executive officers of the Vanderbllt's eastern lines reached Omaha to visit the exposition In a special train over the Chicago cage & Northwestern railway at C o'clock last evening. In the party are : Chauncey M. Depew , chairman of the ex- ocutlvo committee of the Now York Cen tral ; President Callowny of the Now York Central , President Newman of the Lake Shore and President Marvin Hughltt of the Chicago & Northwestern. The train bear- lug these distinguished railway presidents will bo ono of the most elegantly appointed trains ever run Into Omaha. It will consist of five cars , as follows : Baggage car , Northwestern private car No. 400 , Lake Shore officers' car , Michigan Central offi cers' car and Now York Central officers' car. car.Dr. Dr. Seward Webb , president of the Wag ner Palace Car company , with a party of friends , will arrive here to help celebrate New York day at the exposition In a special train from St. Paul , Minn. , on Saturday morning at C o'clock. The train left there last night over the Omaha road , and will arrive at the Webster street station at the hour named. The train consists of four handsome Wagner cars , and after Its dis tinguished travelers < have left It at the sta tion and proceeded to the exposition grounds the train will bo switched to the North western tracks , over which road Dr. Webb and party will return east. The only further Information about the Burlington wreck received by General Man ager Holdrego of the B. & M. yesterday was that the Injured men were getting along as well ns could bo expected. Although two of the men nro badly hurt , It is be lieved that all of the Injured will recover. At railroad headquarters hero It Is be lieved from the preliminary examination Into the cause of the wreck that the responsi bility lies with the engine crew of the cast- bound stock train. As this stock train had ardors to meet the westbound train at In- dlanola , It should have approached the sta tion alowly. Instead It came in at high rate of speed and the momentum of the heavy train back of the two locomotives made it Impossible to slop In time to prevent the collision. The three locomotives are de molished beyond possible repair and the mutton from the l.DOO sheep in the stock train Is said to bo scattered along the right- of-way and adjoining ground for a quartet of a mile. lorrn Central . You remembe.a last winter about this time when you road an advertisement of a Tremendous SacrHieo sale or a great Fire Sale or a sale of somebody's bank rupt stock , in which all the twelve dollar suits were being sold for 2.97 and all the fifteen dollar over coats had to be closed out right away for the small sum of 4.98. You remember it , don't you ! You didn't believe it of course. But then you 'wanted an overcoat and somehow it , Founded kind o' honest like and your wife told you they do give away real bar gains sometimes and you thought maybe it might bo true after all. Yes. You went down there next morning , you know. Not to buy anything , of course , but then to look around and see how much of a licit was and whether it was any different from the other slaughter sale several years ago whore you got bit gpod and hardYes. . Well , you dicl'look around and the salesman did seem such a nice fellow , and somehow you did buy ono of the eighteen dollar overcoats marked down to 6.97 and then you put it on and looked at yourself in the glass and felt like a , blue eyed baby with a big new doll. Yes , the coat looked nice. You thought to yourself , "Well , by George , I always thought The Nebraska was the cheapest place in the world to buy clothing , but I beat 'em this time , that's sure. " Yes , you thought you did. But you remember in about 30 days your line eighteen dollar coat began to look pretty seedy on the edges , the button holes began to give way , the velvet collar began to look like 'twas only painted ; the whole coat took on the appearance of an army blanket after a shower of rain and you made up your mind that you didn't get such a wonderful bargain after all. Now let us remind you of something. It's the same old story this year. You never do get something for nothing. You can't buy a dollar for fifty cents unless it's a plugged dollar and you can't beat Nebraska prices unless for inferior goods. " "TcT \ day our overcoat show is still running.
