meet of the League of American W'heelmen
was closed today and the racing was brilliant -
liant , It furnished more surprises ami1
more broken records. Eddie Bald was
beaten out in the semi-final of the one mile
national professionaL championship. as
were Tom Cooper and Arthur Gartliner. F.
A. McFarland. the new champion , won in
record-breaking time , lowering the one
mnil single 1)ace(1 competition mark from
2:01 : to I :58 : 2-5. Frank L. Kraemer of Newark -
ark , N. J. , put a crimp into his body and
won the one mile amateur championship.
TJe two mile amateur handicap event $ a % '
another broken record and Kraemer , the
one mile national champion , registered it.
The third record to go to smithereens was
that of a quad nmiie. In a trial against
time a. team composed of Van Colt. horton ,
Lishner and Bennett cut the record Irom
1 :47 : to I :45 : 3-5.
The long-talked-of race of the east
against the west was welt contested and
the western riders captured the event.

Frank aneenwald was drivIng a cow
through hIs orciiard when suddenly the
animal refused to go further. On Investiga-
lion Greenwald found under a tree a abort
distance from the road the body of Mary
Maimil , a domestic , who had been employed
in the village. On closer investigation he
foilimil time girl's throat was cut , the bloody
