V John 0. Teiser , I ) . The first two named 1 ; . ; V have been ncttve candidates for several - V months , and have their fences vell estab. lished. with picket lines well out to the front , and strong entrencliments protect- log their base of Hupplies. Dr. Peabody Is a member of the alleged V reform police commission which was do- dared to have no legal existence by the supreme court of the state a few weeks ago , T but wlmlcii still hangs on by time slender thread of an injunction. It is suggested by a populist , who Is evidently not a friend . of this doctor's , that lie trusted to a stiil : . , hunt and tile efficacy of the police force to win the Douglas county delegation , and only announced his candidacy oDenly when LImo . - V : supreme court decided that time members : of the nolico force were under no obhiga- ' tions to the doctor in his assumed legal V' capacity. The county convention which is to select V time delegates to time state convention Is to % be held Saturday afternoon , probably in the , Woodman ball In the Crounso block. at- ' though time place has not been definitely announced - nounced , Timero will be 161 delegates in the convention , eighty-one from the city - and eighty from South Omaha and the country. There wIll be nine delegates from each vard In the city , twenty from South Omaha and four from each of time country precincts. In addition to selecting the state delegation the convention will choose a new V county committee. As to the result of tim primaries little can be said other than that the candidates seem to ho confldent. of success. The friends , of Mr. Yelser think there is no longer any . question that lie will have a large majority in the convention , strong enough to give hmini a solid delegation. and one which will stay with him through the contest. Mr. Deaver and his friends are also confident , but are not so boastful as the Yeiser foi- 'l ? lowing. They say the outlook at this time is more than favorable and think the votes will show them in the lead , With Dr. l'ea- body all appears to be problematical. No ono will venture a guess and his friends rt hint at surprises and unexpected develop- ' ments. There are no less than eighteen candidates nent1oned for governor in all parts of the state uniter the fusion arrangement. Or these two are democrats-Edgar howard of Papihiton and Attorney General Smyth of Omaha. The Douglas county democratic , p committee last. Saturday selected time dde- . gation to the democratic state convention , and it. was instructed to work for the nomi. nation of Mr. Smyth. The lopuhist candidates include nearly every district. judge in the state of that un- hitical faith , Judge John It. Thompson of Grand Isiand being looked upon as the most - formidable one in the list. Congressman L Stark of Aurora is still being discussed as a candidate , notwithstanding his published announcenment to time contrary. Among time . other popuhists said to have gubernatorial ambitions are Speaker Gamn , Judge Wii- ham Noviiie , W , A. I'oynter , Lieutenant , ( hovcrnor harris and Oh Inspector ldmis- ten , . All yesterday a clerk , representIng Attorney - ney Mahoney , the counsel for the Streets of Cairo , was around time court house trying to find Sheriff McDqrmaid. Ito has some kind of a writ or citation to thrust upon Mr. McDonald , purporting to como from Judge Scott , it is supposed that it is the citation issueti by time judge Monday ordering the sheriff to appear Thursday and show cause why he should not. be armmerced for not having produced the four conces- siommnires of the Streets of All Nations before - fore time judge iii the last of several eon- tenipt proceedings , Simeriff McDonald has been prevented from doing so by the restraining - straining artIer of Judges ICeysor , Powell aunt Siabaugim. The clerk was up early yesterday morning to catch the coroner to get him to servo the sUpposeml writ on time sheriff , mis it was sup- poseti Coroner Swanson was going to l.ln- cola to get out of time way for a little while to avoid further trouble , nut tIme coroner amade up his mind to stay at home amid stand emi the protection afforded him by the order of the three judges , and this fooled the clerk , who thereupon concluded to go 011 a still imunt after time sheriff per- sonaily. however , Mr. McDonald was not to be found , Albyn Frank , the clerk of the district court , tuna not yet made out any writ to be served upon the sheriff. lie said all Ime has received has heemi a cop > ' of Judge Scott's order. Beyond that he Is not opening his mouth or committing himself iii any way. Scott is t'o'rcrless. Judge ICoysor , when asked about It , cx- plalned that District Clerk Albyn Frank sould not make out any writ agalmist the sheriff without incurring contempt in the face of the order restraining him which Judges Keysor , Powell and Slabaugh had made ; also timat if he did draw imp time writ for service nobody could be found to servo it because the coroner had been enjoined - joined in the annie order. Even if time order did by any means get to the sheriff , which Is improbable in the face of time Key- sor-Powcti-Slabaugh injtmnctlon , the sheriff cannot obey it without running up against time three judges. Coroner Swanson did , early In the day previous , attempt to servo on the sheriff a citation in contempt from Judge Scott , but Mr McDommaltl flashed the restraining order issued by the three judges upon him and the coroner could do nothing , although it had been time intention of Judge Scott to have the simerlff arrested by the coroner then and there , With the sheriff and imls deputies enjoined - joined from interfering with the liberty and business of the Streets of All Nations people , tue corner enjoined from molesting the sheriff and the clerk of the district court enjoined from drawing up any writ in obedience - ence to any order from Judge Scott , and , finally , Judge Scott's utter inability to compel his fellow judges to pay any attention - tion to him in any Wa > ' , as they are coordinate - ordinate with him and not subordinate , and possess the same power amid authority , there is nothing left for Judge Scott to do , it would seem , but to be resigned to the situa- Lion. Judge Keysor says it effectually set- ties Judge Scott's method of trying to tie nh time Streets of All Nations , amid , as ha had threatened , the entire exposition until October , when it would have been too late for tue Streets of All Nations concee- sionalres to have secured redress for their loss of busimmess. Judge Scott was asked during the morning - ing what he would do about It iii ease he could not get service. "We will see when we come to that. " was his reply , Ito seems confident that he has a strong trummip card back of everything yet to play , but he will not say what it Is.
