Hitherto the practice has been for nearly
all the stores , inchm ling shoe , dry goods ,
grocery , butcher and others to keep open
until noon on the Sabbath and the business
nmcn say that the Sunday mnruing trade
means much to them. The clerks circulated
a petition yesterday which was very generally -
erally signed and they are feeling confident
that they will gain their point , nllhaugh
one or two of the buslmiess men nre jioid-

not close , but it is expected that nil the
dry goods and shoo stores will fill In line
and keep their placOs closed all daySun -
days. The retail clerks enlisted the good
services of the ministers of the different
churches in their behalf anti they were ttn-
doubttlly a strong factor in bringing about
the desired end.
