tying drafts of time auditor's omen. These
drafts , or many of thienm. were written by
the witness , I'apers showing what the
vouchers were for , witness said , were orlg-
inally with Itimim , but at tIle presemil. time he
knew nothing of their whereabouts or eon-
tents. So far as the witness knew , the
vouchers covered proper amid legitimate ox-
pentiitures.

fact that at one time the witness gave Mr.

Regarding the proceeds of a $1,800 draft
drawn on the treasurer , $1,000 was placed
In time 0111cc bank and $800 was paid to Mr.
hlechici and returned a few days later. Sub-
sequeiit to this , witness said that
nil of this money was turned into
the treasury of the company. Witness dir !
not know why the $800 was turned over to
Mr. Bechel. So far as he knew , It was for
the purpose of conducting the legitimate
business of the express trnpany. Mr. Ilechmel
gave no voucher or receipt for the $ S00 ; it
was just turned over. The $1,000 u'as to
cover two advances whIch had irovlously
been made to Mr. Bechel.
\Vitness had forgotten whiat these advances -
vances were made on , but ho was certain
that the money had all been returned.

amount , nor would I attempt to do so at this
