CHICAGO , Mnrch ll.-lt looked for n

appeared to be nn organized raid was made
on May , brokers offering th.it option at
prices UC > ' ,4c under whit Leltor brokers
were bidding for It , but refusing to sell
to the latter at less than the Leltcr bid
prices. July broke 2c In the excitement nnd
continued weak to the end , closing at a loan

But the market under control and succeeded
In holding the May price at yesterday's

for a time. Coarse grains showed a Rood
deal of steidlness In the fucj of the vvhc.it

In the volume of Argentine shlpmcntH nnd
thU was apparently thu only reason for the
Blight advance. No great amount of wheat
was offered and \ery little demand cxlstad
for th llrst few minutes und the market
remained about nt n standstill for that time.
Then It commenced to drop , slowly nt llrst ,
under statistical news. Liverpool receipts
the lust three ilayi were slightly In excess
of normal requirements. The most disturb
ing elmneht was the big addition to the
Htock of contract wheat h re. Chicago re-
celptR were fiS cars today , 19 of which were
of contract quality. He-aides Ihls fit cars and
38,000 bu. NJ. t northern were transferred
from unlicensed housis. The continuance of
the heavy contract receipts from Irregular
pource" began to have effeot on traders and
the unusual heaviness of today's receipts
resulted In an almost total withdrawal of
Hiipport siortly" after the opening. I'r c ° s
In consequence lie-trim gradually to decline.
No very great .selling prissure was-put on
thu market , luvvovar. until the price .had got

ifiiul. giving support to May. bidding $1.01.
Then nppinntly an otg.inlzed raid was
made on May. Inlluentla ! houses came Into

was also known tint Ix-lter had promptly
met niMs for heavy margins which had boert
mailp on him by the bear contingent nnd

resentatives had absorbed something like .
1,000,000 bu. of May did the m.nket quiet
down. A tcni'tlon took pHee In July , the

quite he ivy covering by professional shorts
on this decline' . About noon l.tlter npp.tr-

petting a good deil of w eit below $1.01.
The readiness with which everything was
taken al < > resulted In a marked fulling off
In the offerings and the option after that
was held sto.idllv and the market was
H'cady at $1.01. July showed a great deal
of nervousness for the reK of the se 'lon ,
lint did not move very far either way from

r was a rather llpht trade In corn ,
rket during the extreme weakness
of whertTacTeJ siirprlslnglv llrm. A fair ad-
vanee was scored early on buying on the
bullls'h ' nevvs and on the wet weather. This
was ultimately lost , but not without a sttuu-
gle nnd the market was steady to tha end.

Thn market for oats vv us very dull , though
lluctuatlons were a trifle wider than of late.
It was chiefly n scalpers' market. A bullish
government report nnd the firmness of corn
were features In the early advance. This
was lost later. Oats traders were sellers
late In the session. May ranged from 27V&C

wheat weakness. The close was easv at about
bottom figures. May pork was 7l4c lower

CATTI.13 So fur as numbers were con
cerned thcte was not much change In the
receipt2,482 head today , and 2,312 ye tet-
d.iy. As to the matter of quality the aver
age -vvai not good , but at the same time
theiu were some. right desirable beeves on
s.ilu tint were bolter Hum anything here
> csterduy. The market as a whole .vas In
prolty decent shape and the most of the
cattle sold early.
Ueef Steers The buyers of shipping and
export cattle were In the field this morning
and Mich rattle as they could use , that Is
peed heavy and well linlsbed steers , sold
nt strong ( nrlces. Cattle tint were cairkd
over brought 5c more , than was bid yetter-
day. A part of a load of choice l.tlil 11) .
steers sold up to $500 , showing .vhat leally
desirable/ cattle will bring. Otheta sold at
JI.30Q4.70 Me Hum weight nnd light cattle ,
especially .such as were not well llnldhod ,
were , If anything , n little , lower.
Hutchers' Slock About twenty loads of
cows and heifers vveie on sale , pretty liberal
offerings for the latter part of the week.
The proportion of cow stuff to the total re
ceipts has been pretty large .ill the week
nnd that fact , together with ithe neir ap-
ptoach of the end of the week , gave values
a lower tendency. The most desltablo of
the offerings may not have sold much dif
ferent from yesterday. In fact buyers were
claiming a steady market on all kinds , but
the experience ot sellers was generally In
dicative of a lower market. Good veal
calves uro valuible ptoperty , the demand
being good and the m.irltct very strong. As
high as t < i. " > was pulil yesterday , and today
a small bunch fold up to $0 SO.
Stock Cattle Light stock cattle and
medium weight feeders were not to be. found
In the yards' ' In any great numbers. At the
simo time there was considerable Inquiry
on the part of buyers for anything that
would answer to that description and for
that reason the market was about steady.
When It came to the half fat or warmed up
cattle which have been selling for feeders
the situation was somewhat different. The
half fat stuff has been sailing pretty high
and prices have been forced up so close to
the prices at which light cattle have been
selling that the country has suddenly
stopped taking the half fat cattle.
Speculators found the half fat cattle
accumulating bn their hands and they were
In consequence poor buyers this morning for
that kind of stuff ; If thcyitook It at all they
wanted It at a less price. Representative
