The first work completed by the committee
was the examination of the books at the In

This showed that there was shortage of
$3.400. Dr. Armstrong- the old superintend
ent , was shown this report as soon is it
was ready , and was glvea every opportunity
to examine tie books and explain any dis
crepancies. He looked Into tie matter , de
clared tiat he was satisfied tiat the report
was all right , and Immediately paid down
