Hlloy. After n chase of nearly four months
In Georgia , Tennessee , Minnesota and Now
Mexico , ho was runi to earth by Joseph Mc-
Cann ot the Albany detective force , to
gether with a I'lnkcrton detective named
Thomas. When approached , Warner gave his
name as Qeorgo Johnson , and
protested lie had never worked at
any otter occupation than that of a
farm hand. On hla nay from Junction City ,
where he was taken temporarily from Illlpy ,
Warner broke down and admitted his Iden
tity. At first ho expressed a wlllngnesn to
go on to New York without requisition
papers , but when ho crossed the Missouri
llnw this morning ho changed hla mind
and declined to go further without being
forced.
Winner's makeup as a farm hand Is nn
excellent one. Ho Is dressed tn a suit of
Jeans with a yellow canvas Jumper and a
thick woolen cap. Ills face Is covered with
a thick growth ot red beard. In splto of
his dlsgulso , however , certain lines of re
finement In his face betrayed him as n
man ot education and led to his arrest.
When questioned by a reporter after his ar
rival In Kansas City , Warner said : "I expect
to meet a lot of you newspaper fellows ; I've
made up my ralud not to talk. " Liter Warner
told briefly hew ho had escaped from the cast
and eluded the ofllcers BO long. Ho had been
In hiding In Jersey- City for sometime , he
said , and becoming tired of his concealment ,
decided to glvo himself up. On the way to
the staten the sight of a bicycle on a curbIng -
Ing opened up an avenue of escape. Ho stele
the wheel and rode to Philadelphia. After a
short time In that city he started west , mak
ing his way to Kansas by easy stages on Ills
wheel. Ho says he has been at Hilcy for
seven weeks.
At Riley he passed as George Johnson.
Wanner and two pals kidnaped the C-year-old

ATLANTA , Ga. , Dec. 15. The southern
bankers' convention met here today on a call
of the Atlanta Clearing House association to
cctifilder currency reform and recommend
measures which will glvo an elastic currency
dnd to take the government out of the bank
ing business.
The session was opened in the ball room of
the Kimball house at 10 o'clock by George
De Saussler. vice president of the Exchange
bank of this city. John A. Davis of Albany ,
Ga. , was elected president and Darwin G ,
Jcoes , manager of the Atlanta Clearing house ,
secretary. L. P. Hlllyer , a Macon bunker ,
was chosen as .assistant secretary. Mr. Do
Saussler welcomed the convention. President
Davis declared himself In full sympathy with
the movement for an elastic currency , but
said the standard must be that ot all nations.
Hon. Hoke Smith , in his address of welcome ,
dwelt upon the resources of the south need-
log currency for their development. lie urged
coin alone was insufficient for a prosperous
country and that the provisions In this coun
try for paper money were war measurea not
entirely efficient. He advocated the retire
ment of greenbacks and treasury notes and
the substitution ot banks of Issue under fed
eral control. Ho urged that the percentage
of change on the Issue should Increase as the
percentage of- Issue increased , thereby making
a currency with elasticity enough for the
needs of the trade. He Insisted that the gov
ernment relations should apply as well testate
state ns national banks.
The next speaker was WIlHam W. Dods-
worth , editor of the Now York Journal , Ho
tpoko of the national banking system as
Inelastic and unsuitcd to the needs of the
country , and declared the greenbacks a curse
which vitiates the system. Ho favored au
thorizing state nnd national banks to issue
bills to 85 per cent ot their capital secured by
a first lien upon their resources and the
double liability of stockholders. Ho declared
thoi country necdc-d a safe and clastic cur
rency and this could bo supplied through , the
Issues of such banks.

NEW YOIIK , Dec. 15. A dispatch to the
World from London says : The report that
Mrs , Langtry will bo again taken Into so
ciety is moro than offaet by a resolution
that has been pa > sed by the Jockey club ,
which la aimed directly at her and the prince
of Wales. The resolution says : "For the
future women other than the wives , daugh
ters and sisters of the members of the club
will bo admitted to the Inclosurra acid pri
vate stands ot too club at Newmarket and
on other race courses only on presentation
ot a voucher signed by a menrber of the
club , together with the payment of 1. "
Until the resolution was passed a member
pt the club had a right to pass Into the
Jockey club Inclosurcs and Into the private
fltalla any woman whom ho saw nt. There
lias been a general impression that Mrs.
Langtry hta had a freedom ot the tracks.
Until the death of her husband two months
ago tlio was kept out of the Incloturea and
private stands of the- Jockey club.
It was on the day that her husband died
that her honse Merman won the great ovtcit
ot the year -at Newmarket and nearly 100,000
for Mrs. Langtry that the prince of Wales
conducted her Into the Inclosuro and within
the palo of Jockey club society. Th'a ' act
baa been generally called a breach on the
part of li ! ) royal highness , end made a great
stir , It wan commented upon most un
favorably. Uvc-n the newspapers deplored It ,
This recognition by the prlnco of Wales gave
rise to the rumor that Mrs. Langtry would
try to regain her old place In society , and
that In thte effort she would bo backed by
the prince of Wales' Iniluonce. As a matter
of fact , It is doubtful If Mrs. Langtry his
any desire to go into society again , and it is
absolutely certain that she could not do so
If she tried.
