OMAHA OFFICE. Nov. 17. During the latter
half of locljy'B session the prices of wheat , corn
and oata Jumped out of the rut they have been
in for the last few duy . caused by the report
of Innectn In the Argentine wheat crop , which
haH already had n limited damage by frost , nnd
may have assisted the "bug" report to greater
strength , when the export demand picked up
and took the. edge oft the much talked of bear
eleincnt , "big receipts. " nnd advanced wheat
le. corn He and oats Ic.
The recent dull nnd saglng 'market , duo to the
lack of export demand nnd Argentine and other
foreign news , together with heavy receipts , which
are three times those of last year ( being swelled
somewlutt by thlpments of low grade wheat from
Minneapolis to Duluth ) , was und Is In n po-
fltlon to he perceptnbly affected by this kind or
news. The material falling off of receipts , whlcn
according to statistics nnd Interior reports must
bo during the coming month , will , we believe.
make n more substantially strong market , when
holders of wheat may realize good profits ,
Corn , yon will note , Is being Inlluenced by Ilia
fluctuations of wheat , though a little slower nnd
of n narrower range.
Oats arc Independent nnd very strong.

Decline About KqunlM tlio Net Ontn
Clinic TiuvMilnj- .
NEW YORK , Nov. 17. Net declines today were
about the same an nel snltm wcro yesterday In
tlie stock market , but the range of prices Is
a little wider , ns there was n time during the
day when they were carried a fraction above
yesterday's close. The extreme drcllne In some
of the grangers and the coalers Is therefore
soineiiung over a point , sugar rutca generally
above last night's close , rlxlng at one time
Hi per cent , nnd this sustained the general
market for a time. A Jump of 3J4 per cent In
Consolidated Uas was also on the side of sus
tained pi Ices , but the eccentric movements of
the stock have come to be practically dlsrc-
gatded. lloth of these stocks fell away to yes
terday's level In the subsequent weakness.
There was u lack of firmness In the price or
St. Paul , notwlthslnndlng the Increase of over
} 117tH In Its earnings for the second week In
November. The comparison Is with a poor week
last > e r and was considered as not showing
the recent high rate of earnings fully suutnlnea.
The declaration of only the regular quarterly
dividend of 1 per cent on Hurllngton brought
realizing sales In. that stock and also served to
weaken xjmewhat the granger group. Southern
and southwestern Hocks were comparatively
firmer on the excellent second week's state
ments of Missouri Paclllc , Wabash nnd Texas
& Paclllc , nnd on the continued heavy cotton
movement In Ihe uouth. Speculation , however ,
was almost dead , and the dealing In speculative
stocks was confined utmost entttely to room
traders. Union Pacific was very heavy all day
and lost 11 ; per cent net. This decline was
coupled with u rise of nearly S points In the
Kansas Pacific consol bonds.
The bond maikct was much more active rela
tively to stocKu , nnd the high priced Invest
ment ls.-ues were In special demand and show
gains of from 1 to 3 paints. This tendency In
the security market was entirely consistent with
the remarkable cure In the money market. There
Is a steady current of funds toward this cen
ter of liquidation of loans , und a. very limited
demand for money Is tht.u j.et free , H Is known
that last week's Increases in louns ot the New
Yoik bunks was more than accounted for by
operations on account of the Union Pacific
bale. Loans on other accounts showed an actual
deciense nnd the limited supply of commercial
paper offerings Indicates that merchants arc nol
In need of fund's ' nt present. This Is , In pail ,
to the easy collections all over the country
nnd to the large ? payment of outstanding Indebt
edness which has made money plentiful at In
terior points. Hut there Is some apprehension
that It may nlso be due to falling ort In busl-
ness activity. The. case of tne money maikct Is
so marked thnt there Is pome talk thnt the
Union Pacific payments to the government will
bu made before they become due.
The total sales of all bi.icns fell off again
today to less than 1SO.OOO ehares and losses were
general throughout the list. Hay Statu Oas led
In point of activity , nnd was lined at one time
? per cent on a rumored acqulremenl of an. ex
tensive system of properties. Hut the advance
wan met with enormous offerings which drove
( Awn the pi Ice.
In the bond market lliere was a sale of Flint
& Pere Marquelte , Port Huron division , 5s at 7' " .
per cent lower than the la t sale , which was
several weeks ago. Otherwise prices were Ilrm
and higher. Total sales were $1,530,000. United
States 4s were V& per cent higher bid.
Application has been made to the Stock ex
change to list $570,000 additional first coneoll-
daltcl mortgage 5 per cent guaranteed gold bonds
of the Southern 1'aclllc Hnllroad company ot
California. The Union Pacific reorganization
committee has n&ked permission to list $14 000 000
engraved Jlerciinllh- Trust company purchase
money certificates. The amount of Omaha & St.
Louis first 4s mentioned In the application to
lift on the Stock exchange has been lncrease.1
from $1,950,000 to $2,3TC,000. Colorado Midland 4a
will hereafter bo quoted In the bond call on
'change as "all Installments paid. "
The Evening Post's London financial cable
gram says : "The stock markets were quiet and
steady today. Investment stocks wcro firm.
Americans were lifeless , there being no initia
tive hero and the clone was ueak. Many in
quiries have been made toatay after eagles by
American houses , but It may be only for Ger
many. It in mill that 300,000 In gold Is going
to Chill Immediately In connection with Hie com
pletion ot the currency conversion. This U prob
ably correct , but unusual mystery surrounds tlie
operation , no one knowing whether the gtill has
yet to leave the Hank of England , or whether It
lias already been bought up In tlie ojien 'market.
Money rates arc easy , but I learn thai the bank
has begun to borrow again , which probabl >
means a temporary recovery In rates. The Parts
and Herlln markets were quiet. "

HOSTON , Nov. 17. The American Wool nnA
Cotton Heporter will Eoy tomorrow of the wool
trade : I memo rtagnatlon has characterized the
market for the last neck. The only feature or
special note Is the u-port Ihnt one large house
has fold a big block of Its Australian holdings
to n leading mill. A number of large mills have
been represented in the -market , but their pres
ence was more Indicative of the taking up o ;
woo previously bought than of negotiating or
new supplies. The manufacturers feel In duty
bound to keep their hands on the pulra of the
wool trade , but there 1 very little inducement
for them to buy wool nt this time. 1'rlces arc
wonderfully well maintained , considering the
long dull spell to which the market 1ms been
subjected. The greutist strength Is wltnoced

CATTLE Today's receipts of cattle num
bered 123 cars , a fair run but a heavy falling
off as compared with yesterday. Of the cnt-
tlo hero twenty-one cars were consigned di
rect to killers , and a train In another bunch
was not offered for sale on the early market
at least , so that the actual number of cattle
available for the day's trading was compar
atively limited. Tile market as a whole was
In somewhat better condition than yesterday
and entirely satisfactory to the sellers.
Corn-fed beeves were In limited supply nnd
good demand , so much so that i\n early
clearance 'was effected. The prices paid
were steady to strong as compared with yes
terday. One bunch sold as high as $1.70 , the
best price paid In some little time.
Butchers' stock was In fairly liberal sup
ply , and the demand r.vas good , und , ns was
the case with beef steers , the yards were
practically cleared In good season. The
prices paid were steady to strong as com
pared with yesterday.
'Jhe feeder market was practically un
changed. Good light cattle , such as arc In
demand , sold quite readily , while heavy and
rough cattle were rather slow. Rcpresenta-
