( Special. ) Asfistaat State Engineer Clarence Johnston has returned from the Alcova Hot Springs la central Wyoming , where he has been en- gaced in making surveys for extensive im provements to be made by the Fremont Hot Springs company. Tbe Alcova Hot Spring * are thirty-five miles west of Casper near the banks of the North Piatte river. The springs are five in number , the water flowing from a sandstone formation , which is cut by the river into a canyon with perpendicular walla nearly 1,000 feet high. The springs flow from near the base of tbe canyon wall and the water descends about ten feet vertically and fifteen feet horizontally before reaching the river. The springs have different mineral properties and are both cold and hot. Tha spring to be utilized first has a. temperature of 134 degrees and flows two cubic feet per second. This spring will be tapped by plpet of ten and twelve inches in diameter and tha water carried l.SOO feet to a level area below the canyon , where a hotel and bath houses will be constructed. At this point there ifi & bridge across the Piatte river , on the north , side of which is the townsite of Alcova , lo cated in a magnificent little valley bordered all around by a etandstoae ridge , varyinE from SOB to 700 feet la bright. One-half a mile from the town is a red standttone de posit , from which the hotel and other build ings will be constructed. Nine miles dis tant is a coal vein , which has 6eea utilised by the ranrhmea for a number of years. The vein is nine feet thick and the coal of good quality. The Fremont Hot Springs company is composed of Nebraska capitalists , who will make extensive improvements in anticipation of the continuance of the Fremont & Elkhorn line westward , from Casper to and beyond their property.
