At G o'clock last night the thlrty-
Jlrst annual Stnto fair of Nebraska closed ,
and for the first time in several years , fair
week has passed without a single un
fortunate circumstance to mar Its success.
"With an unprecedented enthusiasm on the
part of exhibitors and a week of the most
delightful weather that the Imagination
could picture , there was no excuse for fail
ure. .
While the management has not had time
to thoroughly ascertain the financial results
of the exposition , there IB no doubt that the
fair has been nearly as satisfactory from
a buskiess standpoint as It was from that of
the exhibitor and visitor. Each day brought
nn attendance decidedly In excess of the
usual record for that day , and whllo the
too saiiKulnu nredlctloa of some enthusiasts
that there would bo 100.000 people on the
groundn on a single day was noi verified , the
aggregate attendance has been decidedly
heavier than usual.
After the bis crowd of Thursday the
grounds seemed olmoit deserted yester
day. Kvtry man , woman and child In
Omaha had stood on the street for nearly
threu hours on the evening before to sco
the splendors of the pageant of Qulvcra
and few of them felt equal to the task of
netting up nnd going to the fair grounds
yesterday morning. The early trains carried
out a few hundred people , but they were
not aufilclcnt to make a showing on the
grounds. The fakirs and popcorn venders
found their occupation gene and an un
wonted silence prevailed.
At 10 o'clock the band gave a nhort
concert which drew n small crowd from
the exhibits nnd this waa the only
feature of the forenoon. In some of the
departments exhibitors were preparing to
pack up , although none of them were al
lowed to move until after I o'clock , when
the moving commencd In earnest and con
tinued until late Into the night. The judges
wcro making up such awards as had not been
previously turned In and the approaching
< 1lssolutlon of the big show was everywhere
percuptlblc.
In the Administration building the officials
were head over heels In the Adjustment of
the misunderstandings and routine matters
that necessarily accompany the final winding
ii ( > of nn exposition and the clerka were busy
getting the books ready to turn In.
The award of the prizes for the competitive
