PROCESSION ENTEUS.
And now the band strikes up with a
martial crash , the fountain pulses with anew
now life , the lights shine with an added
brilliancy and thousands of hearts beat high.
The procession of knights enters , headed by
the governors , and all In the picturesque
garb of the evening before. They range
themselves about the four sides of the danc
ing lloor , reserving the space Immediately In
front of the thrones , where the governors
form In parallel lines. The king enters , pre
ceded by his heralds , passes between the
lines of governors nnd knocllng knights and
asnunes the seat of sovereignty with the
moln of one born to rulo. Expectant eyes arc
again turned toward thu entrance , thn heralds
appear again , followed by ten maids of
honor , walking two and two , who prrcedu
the queen , who Is robed In white ami blue
nnd whoso train Is borne by two dainty
pages. The king stands waiting for the
sharer of his throne , In whom the gratified
populace recognizes Miss Gertrude Kountzo.
Ho has unmauked and shows his people tlio
familiar featured of Mr. Edward Porter
Peck. ' The knights kneel a second time as
Hut gracious lady mounts the steps which
lead to the throne. The king receives her
with the homage which chivalry owes to
beauty , and sets a diadem upon her brow.
Court and people break forth In loud acclaim
nnd the coronation Is accomplished. Then ,
for the diversion of the king and ( juccn , the
knights march and countermarch before
their .sovereigns , executing military ma
neuver of Intricate design with the utmost
precision ami creditable- regularity ,

BALTIMOHK. Sept. 21. Nearly 13.000 pco-
plo saw Boston's base ball players beat the
Champions today and lake the lead In the
exciting race for this season's champion-
ehlp. One hundred and thlrty-flvo of these
people were Bostonlans , who came over to
"root" for their fallow citizens. Bedecked
with red badges and armed with tin horns ,
they majo noise enough for ten times their
number , ami tonight they arc tu an exces
sively cheerful frame of mind. Not so with
the rest of the crowd , for they have no ex
cuse to inako for the beaten Champions. The
game was fairly won by superior playing ,
timelier batting , better base running nnd
sharper , cleaner fielding , In which Hamilton ,
Long nnd Tennoy played probably the most
conspicuous parts , two of Loug'tt and one of
Tcnney's catches being of the moat sensa
tional order.
Tlio Boston "rooters , " headed by Congress
man John F. Fitzgerald of that city , hired a
brow band tonight and gave u reception at
the Kutaw house. Tomorrow they will take
the bind to the grounds to help "root" for
the visitors.
Collins , Beaton's third baseman , was lilt In
the cyo with a batted ball during practice
this afternoon and tonight the Injured mem
ber Is swollen and' discolored. Ho expects
to bo In the game tomorrow , however.
At first It looked llko an easy victory for
the Champions when the vlsltora went out
In one , two nnd three order In successive
Innings , and the Orioles had two tullles
tucked away , but there was n chnngo In the
fourth , when Doyle , usually fnultlesa In his
fielding , fell over nn easy bound right Into
his hands , gave Stahl a life and let Tcnucy
In with n run. This pleco of bad playing
was followed by a bit of hard luck , when
Stenzcl bagged a three-bagger , but was
caught on trying to come homo on Doyle's
easy ono to Collins.
A period of demoralization which does not
show In the score overtook the Bnltlmorouna
at this juncture and two runs put the vis
itors In the lead. Thin lead would have
been overcome , as the sequel shows , but
"Brother Joe" cluchml It for the visitors by
presenting thorn with two runs In the sev
enth , a throw over Doyle's head In trying
to field an easy bunt , n wild pitch and an
other fall down on a simple little grounder
by Doyle , netting three runs , after glU-
edged offers to retire thu side had been
offered and lost.
The eighth Inning was productive of great
disappointment to the Haltlmoreans , when
with bases full Stenzcl lined out a corker
to left field. Had It got through Boston's
field It meant two runs. Long made a dca-
perato rush for It. It landed In his mlt and
the side was out.
It seemed quite hopeful for the Champions
again In the ninth , when Doyle , Hcltz and
Hoblnson. singled , ono after the other , send
ing Doyle In with a run , nnd Hcltz followed
with another on McGraw's single , Qulnn
going out In the meantime on a long fly to
Hamilton. With four runs In. two men on
bases and only one out , It looked good for
Baltimore , but Long Jumped way up Into
the air , pulled down Keeler's red-hot liner ,
threw to Lowe at second and doubled up
Captain Hoblnson , who had Incautiously lit
out fen third base whcu Keeler hit the "ball.
This ended the agony and the score tells
the rest. Attendance , 12,904. Score :
