CHICAGO , Aug. SO.-Corn was the trading
market on 'Change today. It closed nt a
li.-.lf cent rulvnnce. Bomethlns remarkable In
view of the receipts. September wheat wus
radically weak on the almost total nbandon-
nitnt of their lines of that option liy the
luavlext holders and the taking up of Do-
i-unbor. September whent closed 3 < 4 cents
lou -r. while December was only -H cent
lower at the close. O.ita and provisions were
both benclltcd by corn , oats advancing %
cent and provision * firfi'H cents.
\MiMit st.u-tcd rather weak. Liverpool
opt tied with it decline of > i pence and had
made u f .irthcr drop of * pence , or 1V4 pence
In all. before the business of the day coin-
inenend lictv. I'nrls was reported as showing
the equivalent of U cent per bushel advance
ot the opening , but the Liverpool decline
received the greater consideration and
IMlifted December wlu-at to open here at a
dec-line of HrUl cents per bushel. The do-
c'lnifavored those who were already short
nrd wan seized upon as a good opportunity
to src-uro n tinlrk profit. Some bulls , also ,
ivlio had sold out the wc-r-k before , took on
n < w lines , nnd the result was a er.idual Im
provement. Hei-emlier st.irtcd at s.SfiS9 (

price reaching W * cents for a moment. Fol

lj'\rpool was 1-Ti to 2'i ponce per eental.
IMI-IM shotted \ Iranc or 4 cents a bushel de
cline for August , but nu ailvanee equivalent
to 'u cent per bushel for November-Kcbru-
nry Antwerp declined R2',4 ' centimes , or 3 < i
cints a bushel. These declines put a quietus
0,1 t-ie rather alarming HtatementH of crop
d image put forth by various foreign au
thorities , notably the Austrian minister of
agriculture. Chicago receipt * were 54ri ears.
A' Minneapolis and Lmluth 31M oarloads were
rri'clved. comp.iicd with SHU on the cor-
rt pending day of IVni The clearanees of
wheat niul Hour from Atlantic ports since
S.itmday. Inclusive of those from New Or-
Icntis and Newport Ni'vxp , amounted to the
unusually heavy quantity of 1,050,000 bushels ,
of which S. 3,000 bushels were In shape of
wheat. The visible decreased 1KK,000
Imshels , and the total Is now reduced to
13,47:1.000 : buslels , against -15,571,000 bushels a
year aeo. The world's shipments to Kuropc
last week aggregated 7,453OCO bushels. The
English visible decieascd 1.ISC.OOO bushels ;
the amount on ocean passage Increased
3Ml ( ( ii bushclf. One pronounced feature of
the market was the almoM complete aban
donment of September wheat by the parties
TVlio held by far the largest line of It. The
dumping of September for December com
menced nt the opening and within an hour
tin1 2 < cent difference nhloh existed between
the two options Saturday had disappeared
nnd the eagerness with which exchange was
m.idc even at even llgures proved an addi
tional source of weaknesr. and ultimately
put thr price of September below December
ll urcs. The market ruled dull during the
c'OHlng hour , with December hovering
around MH > cent * . The closing prices were
KWi cents for December and Mi cents for
S ( HU-lllhrr.
Corn was a very active market with the
exception of a very slight feeling of ner
vousness .it the opening. The market wu.
as onlsOilngly strong , considering the re
ceipts , 3,583 cars , the latgcst on record. Kle-
vnlor people led the buying and reported
a great falling oft In country acceptances ,
fj > r er- evidently holding back for better
prices. There was also a good deal of cover
ing by sculping shorts. Only slight traces of
rain were reported from the corn belt and
drouth damage claims were numerous. Tne
visible supply Increased 5)17.u(0 ! ) ( bushels.
Clearances were 4fH.MO bushels. December
opened M' % cent lower , at 3Iff31 > , & cents' .
It advanced to 32i ! cents , nnd closed at
22'ti cents.
The bulk of the business In oats was In
the way of exchanging. Fluctuations were
ruled almost entirely liy corn and the ten
dency , therefore , was generally upward. Ue-
celptH were largo. 701 cars. The visible sup
ply Increased 1,2-10,000 bushels. December
opened unchanged at IDid cents , advanced to
2USii cents and closed at 20'4 cents asked.
Provisions started weak on the break In
yard prices nnd liberal hog receipts. The
dcc.lne , however , was slight and a sharp
advance took place , which was undoubtedly
caused by the strength of corn. A feature
was the buying of September pork and lard
by the Cudahys and the selling of October
nnd December by the same people. Closing
prices were close to the best of the day.
At the close December pork was 12'A cents
hl.her nt $ .I02M. ; December lard 5 cents
higher at $1.93. and December ribs ' cent
higher at $3.10.

prominent operators supplemented by execution
of commission house nrdeis nnd the selling" was
to take iirdlts. the liquidation being encour

'CATTLE The board showed IIS cars of
cat.lo in this morning with a train reported
for noon. Western cattle made up the bulk
of the supply , , but" there were a few naIves -
Ives , with TO me better finished beeves than
were here either Friday or Saturday In
cluded. Cow stuff was only In moderate
supply , while feeders wore numerous. No
great change was quotable lor tiny branch
of the trade.
IJuyew got out In good season nnd bought
up about everything In the line of corn-
fed stock early rtn'd ul Just about last week's
closing prices , with' J5.00 an a top for better
steers than have been sold since Thursday.
The trade was active on desirable grades ,
while the Inferior grades were n little slow
and In spots perfjaps a shade easier. WMi
feeder buyers as hard nt work as ever and
nsi anxious for .feupplle . ? , but few of lho
western offerings fell Into killers' hands.
The cow nnd heifer market shaded down
n little again on most grades except the
very best , but the demanil was good nnd
i he twelve or fifteen loads here were cleaned
up In good Bunion. Hulls , stags , etc. , Bold
about like last week's close , nnd veal
calves brought fully recent prices.
There was another big trade. In feeders
nnd prices ruled steady to strong , the
strength developing pn the batter grades.
The demand camp from the country'as .well
an speculators , and a'Jarge amount of busi
ness was done. Representative sales :
