CHICAGO , AIIR. ST. Wheat furnlnhed an
other ii nfllon today. This time it was the
bulls who suffered , September closlnc B %
tent * lower 4tid December at a decline oft
Z /t cents after a SCTSlon remarkable for
urnai : tradlnc and extremely violent fluetua
tiftiw. Weak forelBn markets and reports of
rebelling ; by foreiKnom were ostenrfblr the
rea-on for the decline , but there -were plenty
of rumors of a "boar" combination formed
no break the market Corn was al very
turbulent and closed at afcaut 1 cent decline.
Oats - wereweak and declined ' ,4 cent- Pro
visions clew * 1 ] 0 cents lower.
All enthusiasm had apparently leaked out
of holders of wheat at the opening. Liver
pool furnished a very disagreeable surprlro
to them , stHrtlns at iVifiZT * pence lower.
This was entirely unlocked for after yexler-
fla > 's Z rent advance here and It fairly took
the bul'-s * breath away. There was practi
cally no demand for December wheat at the
opening. The consequence waf that It
started at WifrW ) cents , or 3M < 03Ti cents
below yesterday's close , and dropped almost
Instantly to feWi rents. A perfect flood of
wheat wan poured on the market for a few
irSnutes , Including many stop lo s orders.
JJurlnR that time there was an almost tola ;
lark of Iniylnc orders , but they made their
Appearance at W4 cents , and flve minutes
after Uect-mber had rallied to 91 cents. Sep.
lumber wheat was hardly heard of for the
flr-t few minutes In the excitement accom-
imnylng the unloading of December. It was
lullsuf wenk at the Immediate opening ,
however , ptartlnc all the way from 9"ts cents
lo ! . ' 2 cents , or a drop of exactly 1 % cents
from the highest point reached yesterday.
The excitement soon pubslded almost alto
gether , and fluctuations from the extreme
narrowness of tradlnc were frequent and
violent , one or two moderate trades being
FUtllc-lrnt to send the price up or down H
cent of more. That some mysterious * bear
Influence was at work on the market before
the opening was the General opinion. It
wns plated late on ( what was considered re
liable authority that a combination Including
Charles Counwlman and John Cudahy had
been formed to break the alleged bull pool ,
and that the eccentricity of today's market
was due to the manipulations of the new
combine. ChicuKo's receipts were 2G2 cars ,
of which only fourteen were contract. The
quantity token from store was 147.000
bushels. Minneapolis and Duluth received
SZi cars , aRalnsi C74 on the correspxiiialiis
day ot the year before. Atlantic port clear-
nnces ncaln confirmed the penulness of the
European demand for American wheat and
Hour. The equivalent of G50 , < KW bushels was
exported from the principal ports in the
last twenty-four hours. The market was
steadied somewhat by the midday strength
of corn , but became radically weak again
on reports that foreigners were re-Relllng
at the seaboard. December rose to 91 %
cents , but decSined on that to SS4 cents. It
had recovered to SO cents at the. close. Sep
tember sold as high as 9G cents , but closed
at 93 cents.
Corn was very active and Irregular. The
market was badly demoralized at the open
ing on account of the. break In wheat , more
favorable weather and heavy receipts , 1.642
cars. The opening weakness was followed
by a period of considerable strength with
peed country and foreign buying , helped by
drouth damage claims. The market yielded
Inter , however , on heavy liquidation started
by the late decline In wheat and was quite
weak nt the close. A heavy business was
transacted. Cables were hither , charters
were for 1.200.000 bushels. December opened
1 cent lower at XMiTCH cents. It dropped to
314 cents , sold as high as 23 cents and closed
at SSf.'E.'H , cents.
A fairly good business was done in oats.
The opening was weak with everything
else , elevntor selling being conspicuous , and
quite a sharp decline resulted. Part of
this wan subseauently recovered , but the
market nwrnged weak. Receipts amounted
to 451 cars. Charters were for 100,000 buuhel * .
December opened % cent lower at 197 ffi0 ! !
cents , ranged between 20 % cents and 19 %
cents * . The opening break In prices of
wheat and corn caused provisions to start
weak , notwithstanding small receipts of
hogs and a considerable rise in their price
nt the yards The subsequent rise in corn
put the market climbing again , but the de
cline In that cereal later in the day again
produced a selling pressure that lost the
products nil and something more than they
had gained. At the close December pork
was 10 cents lower at SS.37jj , December
lard unchanged at J1.D3 and December ribs
Ii cents lower at Sj.20.
Estimated receipts for Saturday : Wheat ,
220.cars ; corn , 1,730 cars ; oat ? , GTiO cars : hoga ,
14.000 head.

NEW YORK. Auc. 27. Today's market was
stronc throughout and the upward tendency of
prices wns practically uninterrupted liy reac

for stocks elicited no offerings and led to a luh
in the activity , which soon cave place to re

Inactive stocks were sought out and moved Iti
the market , all at notable cnlns The market
even touched some of the extremely low-priced
discarded Issues. The rtrencth of the market
was evidently based on a renewal of full con

business. Some of the railroads -are making
record earnings. anJ all arc showing Increased
earnings. Fuller reports of sume western grain

movement of general merchandise westward than
to the movement of grain eastward , and thl

CATTLE Morning receipts amounted to
ninety-one cars , 2.M1 cattle , with twenty-five
lends back to come later. Fat cattle were
not very numerous , while feeding grades
n-ere In liberal supply , but other markets
were and had been for wveral days lower
on beef and today's trade was on a lower
basis in spite of the limited supply.
Some reaction was due in the fat cattle
market to keep ioc tl pnccs 2o\vn ame-nhere
near in line with other places and the dressea
beef men asked a lOc reduction , which they
penerally pot. The trade was natura.ly a
little slow under thase conditions , out every-
thlnc changed bands In fairly treed season ,
with ktllera Retting some western graspers ,
although only a small number , because of
the big feeding demand , and high prices
being paid to turn al ! feedab'.e stock back to
the country.
Of tht duaen loads of cow stuff on sale
about eight were grassers and In one string.
The demand was generally good , but the
weakness of fat cattle had some Influence
and buyers were rather bearish , although
unable towork out any quotable decline.
Bulls ruled steady and no change iwapquoted
In the veal market.
Steady , with tbe trade full of vinegar , was
a good description of the feeder market and
all holdings -were out of first hands early.
TOP speculators were large sellers as well
as llbera' buyers and the pen ? were again
practically emptied of all i3 slruble cattle.
