NEW YOItK , Aug. 1. Unless all signs
fall the fifty-third annual cruise of the New
York Yacht club , beginning tomorrow at
Glen Cove , the place of rendezvous , will be
the most Imposing one as a spectacle and
the most Interesting one from a sporting
point that this famous organization has ever
enjoyed. At sundown tonight there were
lying in the harbor of Glen Cove some
thirty yachts the nucleus of the great fleet
that will assemble there tomorrow morning
to prepare for Its first day's squadron run ,
which Is to be from Glen Cove to Nlntlng-
ton. At 11 a. m. tomorrow there Is to be
a meeting of captains on board the flagship
Corsair of Commodore J. Plerpont Morgan ,
to decide what time the start shall be made
and tha settlement of the minor details of
the course.
Tomorrow's race will be particularly Inter
esting by reason of the value of the prizes
offered by Vice Commodore Ledyard , and
becaure of the array of crack boats that will
start In the race.
In the rchooner class the famous two-
stickers Colonla and Emerald will have a
new rival for fpeed honors the new
schooner Hlldegarde , built for Georse W.
Weld of Boston. This will be Its maiden
race and the result will lie watched with In
terest. While the fquadron runs every day
will bo interesting three principal events
will be tomorrow's race , the Goe'et cup
race , August 5. and the ocean race from
Vineyard Haven to Saddle Hock ledge , near
Ilockland , Me. The start tomorrow will
be made about 1 p. m. and the thirty-footers'
will be sent away llrst on one gun start.
The sloop' will be pent away next and the
schooners last. The program for the cruise
after tomorrow will be governed somewhat

PHILADELPHIA , Aug. 1 The eighteenth
annual meet of the League of American
Wheelmen , for which preparations have
been going on lor over three months , will be
held In this city during the coming week and
the largest Influx ot out-of-town wheelmen
ever attending a national meet Is expected.
An unusually largw number ol entries , pro
fessional and amateur , have been made for
the two days of racing , Friday and Saturday ,
and the crack riders from all parts of the
country have entered In their respective
classes.
The meet Is being managed by the ABSO-
clted Cycling Clubs of Philadelphia , an or
ganization composed of twenty of the leading
cycling clubs of the city. Uuder the direc
tion of an executive committee thp various
details have finally been completed and all
la in readiness for what promises to be the
most succt isful race meet In the history of
the League of American Wheelmen.
On Tuesday Pennsylvania division of
the league will hold a business meeting , after
which the national meeting headquarters will
be 1 opened for registration and Issuing of
credentials. All ot Wednesday and Thurs
day will be given to the tours and runs , and
the visiting wheelmen will be taken to every
point of inten-at in and about the city that
can be readied by wheel. Wednesday night
there will be an excursion on the Delaware
river , and on Thursday night there will be
an all-night "Smoker" at the National head
quarters and a fete at Belmont mansion In
West Falrmount park. On both these nights ,
as on the remaining days , there will b ?
'open house" in all the cluba ol the city.
The raros will be held Friday and Satur
day at Willow Grove track. This Is three
laps to the mile and Is constructed of
boards. The preliminaries bo run in the
morning and the finals in the afternoon. The
one mile professional championship will be
decided on Friday and on Saturday the big
race for ? 500 will be conttvsted by the stars
of the professional ranks. The amateur
championship also promises some bitter strug
gles between representatives of the various
states. The entries closed last night for all
events and among some of the leading out-
of-town professionals enforce ! are the follow

commission with all Cherokee rolls of ciUzen-
ehlp , that It might make a final list looking
to the winding up of Cherokee affairs pre

Cherokee commission to confer with the
Dawce commission was hauled over the coala
because of its dilatory action. They were
given a strong hint that they mu t do some
thing or make way for a commission that
would.
Two attornejs , Judge J. A. Scales and
Charles Pearco. were appointed for the Cbero.
kee nation to assist the Dawes commission
to take a true census of the Cherokre people
and to see that the Cherokee Interests are
piotected before that commifslon. This etrp
