The first day's sewilon of the ninth an-
' -dual Rlale meft of the Nebraska division
of the Leagno of American Wheelmen at
Ilia old fair Rroiimls yesterday afternoon
was a brilliant mirccss , especially from a
rnclng standpoint. The t-xcoMlvely torrid
w ther was Inntrilincntal In kceplliR the
attt-ndanrn at a notch way below expecta
tions , still there was a fair crowd on hand
ml the card was pulled off amidst the
liveliest kind of excitement.
Without an exception there wn the best
field of riders on hand ever assembled In
Omiha. and while each nvent was fraught
with interest , the high wind that prevailed
prevented the nmniihlng of any records.

The aftPrnoon'B fun began with the one

awful not to be a bicycle fan at Hiirh n

< if the occasion unlcrti he l.s one of the realm.
The part of the big grand Bland that was
filled was a very apotheosis of varlgatcd
fihlrt walsls and slraw hats , while Inside
the lawn was a motley crowd of linen-be
decked men and bnjK , the whole making nn
pretty a summer picture as you would want
to see.
