Yesterday was a grand day for the light
harness brigade , and there was a fine at
tendance at the fair grounds to witness
ono of the most attractive car3s ever pre
sented for the entertainment of a Nebraska
crowd. The big eland , while only partially
filled , presented a different appearance
from the two preceding days. There were
hundreds of women in the stands and car
riages , and bedecked In cool summer gowns
they lent an additional charm to the already
entrancing picture. Inside the lawn rail
ings there was a host of drags , traps , car
riages and landaus , while about tbo betting
sheds a vast crowd jostled and pushed to
gut on the good things. At a low estimate
there were 3,000 people on the grounds.
While the sky was partly overcast with
thin , vapory clouds , the heat was almost
torrid and had it not been for a refreshing
breeze from the south things would have
been anything but conducive of physical
comfort. The track was in admirable con
dition , hard but springy , and fully three
seconds faster than on the opening day.
Among the prominent people noticed upon
the lawn were : John D. Howe , Mr. and
Mrs. John R. Redlck , Mr. and Mrs.
Will Redlck. Mr. Chat .Redlck. Mr. A.

The first race of the afternoon was the
2:13 : pace , postponed from tbo day before.
The start was a good one , the pole horse ,
Kansas Queen , taking the lead until a bad
break at the first turn set her back , and
Lena Hill went to the van , but was quickly
pasfled by Miss 'Mayo , Woodford Jay and
Prince T. At the half these positions were
unchanged , but at the three-quarters Wood-
ford Jay was on even terms with Miss Mayo
and passed her on entering the stretch , as
did also Prince T. Kansas Queen , behaving
badly , was distanced. Time 2-.12H-
The second heat was an exciting one.
Woodford cut out the pace , hotly pushed by
Prince T. Approaching ( he first turn , Sol
Coleman pulled in DaJ.KcGuire , who was
driving Prince T , and crgwdlpg him back Into
third place. Coleman'K.i horse , Lena Hill ,
brake hero and McGulrc in > endeavoring to
get on the outside , collhSed with Lena's rear
wheel and his bike went over , throwing Mc-
Gulre into the dust , Injur'lng ilm but slightly.
Prlnso T made the entire mile on a gallop
without n driver. The rfudses believing the
affair an accident , orderrd bnth horses to be
in readiness for the third -"heat. " Woodford
Jay kept his advantage home , Lee Ward giv
ing him a struggle for tfae wjre. On account
of tht : ascident. Miss Wayt ) , who was. dis
tanced , was also allowad to remain in the

lay. Lena nussell led at the first turn , with
Hed Seal and Mauler Gilbert pushing her
every inch. At the half Red Seal forged up ,

time for a 3-yrar-old at this time ot the
year. Master Gilbert kept Hed Seal close
company and down homo under the lash they
raado a beautiful race. Red Seal winning by

The second dash was a. repetition of the
first. Red Seal broke at the turn and tell
back to fourth place. At the half Master
Gilbert led , and Into the stretch had in
creased his lead to a couple of lengths. Com
ing home. Red Seel demonstrated his quali
ties as a pacer and was julckly in tbe lead ,
coming under the wire a full two good
