The election booths will open at 9 o'clock
this morning and remain open until 7 o'clock
this evening. Yesterday City Cleric Carpen
ter swore In the judges and clerics anil all
arrangements are now complete for the
counting of the ballots. Many of the Judges
and clerks have served before in a lilco ca
pacity and It Is expected that the count will
bo completed early. Votes for councilman
will , It Is understood , he counted first , then
the Board of Education tickets , and the
votes on the bond proposition last.
Candidates were kept on the jump yester
day and last night , a number of meetings
being held In different parts of the city dur
ing the afternoon and evening.
Major J. W. Cress of this city , yesterday ,
sent the following- letter to The Bee :
I wish to say that the statement printed
hi the World-Herald of Sunday Is a misstatement -
statement of the truth. Jack Walters docs
not carry the old soldiers vote In his vest
pocket by a long sight. He with others
have been known to say many things
about the old soldiers that are not true.
Old soldiers know who their friends arc.
There nro over forty old soldier votes In
the First ward and A. II. Kelly will get
thirty-live or thirty-six of that number at
the election Tuesday. The balance will go
to J. C. Graham. I know what I ami talkIng -
Ing about when I say this. As for A. It.
Kelly being opposed to me for nssassor
last fall , that Is a mistake. A. n. Kelly
has always been ono of my warmest friends
and I am for Kelly , llrst , last and all the
time.
A number of prominent democrats got to-
Bether yesterday afternoon and sharpened up
their knives preparatory to going to work
slaughtering Walters. For some reason
Walters docs not scorn to bo as popular
among his own people as ho pretends to bo.
Judge Den S. Adams , ono of the most promi
nent democrats In the city , has this to say
of Jack Walters and his candidacy ;
To commence with I should llko to ask a
few questions about Walters. First , Is he
u democrat ? Second , Is ho a democratic
candidate ? Third , Is ho u taxpayer ?
Fourth , Is ho Interested In the general wel
fare of the First ward ? Fifth , If he Is
elected who will ho represent ? In nnswpr
to the llrst question I will say that any
voter who took an active Interest In the
Tom Majors campaign procession when
that gentleman wns making a race for the
olllco of governor against our present In
cumbent , Governor Holcomb , cannot call
himself a democrat. If he persists In so
doing I might consistently deny the state
ment nnd call him a democrat for revenue
only. To the second question I answer
"No ! " Ho Is n candidate by petition only ,
the democrats having refused to nominate
him. Going on to the ) next question I will
my that I have been Informed that Walters
Is not a property owner here , neither Is he
i taxpayer. He has not , to my knowledge ,
i single dollar Invested In the city. If
the foregoing statements nre correct 1 can
not see how Walters can bo Interested In
Iho general welfare of the First ward , or
for that matter any other ward In the city.
If elected the only constituent ho will
mve , In my opinion , will bo the corporation
in whose employ ho now Is. So far as the
First ward Is concerned this year thfro Is
10 political Issue at stake. The democrats
will not have Waltcre for the reasons I
mve given. Kelly Is an old resident , a
Irst-class business man. HeIs not an (
illlce seeker. Ho Is n property owner , liav-
ng built several of thu finest residences In
ho First ward. If elected he will repre-
lent the Interests of all citizens In the city
quncll , lie Is broad , clean and capabale.
hope the democrats will do their duty
it the polls and retire Jack to private life. . ,
J. H , Krlon is another old soldier who
exceptions to statements which ap-
leared In an up-town paper to the effect
bat Kelly had protested against his ap-
( ointment to a political olllco. Mr. Krlon
isserts that his relations with Mr. Kelly
lave always been of the pleasantest , nnd
hat Kelly will receive his hearty support
t Hie polls.
Darrett , the republican nominee In the
iccond ward , has made a careful canvass
f the ward and U nails/led / that ho will
o the beat man at the finish Tuesday night ,
Tralnor. the Third ward republican , Is
ssurcd of BUiliclent support to elect him , as
s uluo Sam Mort In thd Fourth ward.
For memberg of the Hoard of Education
ho republican candidates , Messrs. Lott ,
Vyurnn and Turnqulst claim to bo certain

John M. Nee of this city has Just returned
from Chicago , where ho had an exciting
experience with highwaymen on the night

fronted by four rough-looking men , who
demanded his valuables. Nee had nearly
