were tliorotiRhly disheartened by a fur
ther sharp break In that market today ,
May closing at a lie decline. It stood
within ' ,4,0 of 70o at ono time. Weak cables
and a i > oor cash and export demand started
liquidation , which continued almost with
out cessation nil day. Other grain and
provision markets were comparatively
steady , corn closing a shade hlRher ; oats
Were unchanged and provisions 2'.4c ' lower
to 2V c hlslicr.
Liquidation of long May wheat began
with the tap of the opening bell and con
tinued all forenoon , Dy 11SO : o'clock the
prlco of that option had declined to 70HS1
70',4c. ' compared with 71J4Q > 71$4c $ at the close
of the market yesterday. H opened at
from 71c to 71Hc. While May was making
the decline of % o referred to , July lost
only He. July could at any time during
the decline ho sold In considerable quan
tities at the bid price without further
depressing It , until a greater concession
was forced by the dllllculty of finding
buyers for May. The additional weakness
of the market was duo merely to the con
tinuation of previous bearish conditions ,
weakness abroad and no appearance of any
buying by foreigners , notwithstanding the
dally Inducement offered hero of lower
priced. Liverpool quoted u decline of % d at
the start and a further loss of Hd later
In the day. A private cablegram from
Liverpool reported arrivals there of car
goes of white wheat as weighing that mar
ket down this morning. Minneapolis and
Dil lilt h receipts were 391 cars , compared
with 333 a week ape and 237 last year.
The receipts here were 14 carloads , kx-
jiorts of wheat and sugar from Atlantic
ports were equivalent to 320,000 bu. New
York reported prominent firms there sellIng -
Ing wheat futures on cable orders and
the Belling of long May wheat held for
foreign account was a feature of the pit
transactions here at the opening. There
was a rumor near the end of the session
that the decline In price had awakened a
little export Inquiry at the seaboard and
that twenty-five boatloads had been worked.
The most that could bo confirmed , how
ever , was two boatloads. Milling demand
at Chicago was satisfied with 21.000 bushels ,
The decline In May to 70M70Vic : ! | was fol
lowed by n slight rally which took It to
700'iC , and that by another ducllnc to 70'/tc ,
and recovery to 70Tic at the close. July

Corn held remarkably firm , In contrast
to the weakness In wheat. The fluctua
tions were Insignificant , but the tendency
was for the most part In the direction of
Improvement. Wet weather west and good
of a continuation of the same ,

713,000 bu. all tended to hold prices uti-ady
nt a ahnde above yesterday's prices. May

Considering the weakness In wheat , oats ,
like corn , was relatively very firm , although
there was scarcely anything to Influence

Provisions opened rather weak because
of fairly liberal receipts of hogs at west
