In wheat the Russian crop damage rcpon
was a new string the bulls had to play
on when business In thu pit commenced
They twnngcd upon It to so much ndvnn

wheat had ndvnnced IVic per bushel
Whether Insplicd by the example , of Chi
rfigo or because the Russian dninngo was
the stimulus at Liverpool , wheat there
Which opened with the modest gain of

day when next heard from. That matkct

May wheat , which clojtd yesterday ut

7Bc to 754c ! and sold at "C'Uo bcfoio an
hour had gene by. Thu bull music kept
tip until about 11:20 : o'clock , when a cable-
cram from Liverpool to a pi eminent house
hero thiew It Into a howling discord
which gave the bears their opportunity.
The Liverpool cable referred to read ; "Ad'
vance In futures duo to shoits covering
Bpot wheat pressed for sulo without buy-
tr . nusslan offerings Increasing. " That
and a. flildden collapse of n ptovlotisly pio-
nounccd bullish wheat market at St. Louis
caused n , stampede of the nulls. St. Louis
which yesterday nt the close quoted May
wheat at 87Uc , hoisted It in the first hour
today to M'/ir and let the bottom fall out
nftcrwnrds. The suddenness of the droi
made speculators fairly shiver and sent
Mny tumbling from 7G4c to 75TsC. Chicago
receipts of wheat were 33 cars and ship
ments by rail 111,531 bu. Minneapolis ntu
Duluth reported 3.1D rare received against

port rxports of wheat and Hour were to
gether equal to only 215,000 bu. Dradstreet's

week , lfc01GOO bu. of It hero and 2,2. > G.OOO
bu. In and afloat for Kurope. Mny rallied
from 76c to 76 < lc , but the bull feeling hail
boon so largely squeezed out that It turned
down again to 75c and closed at from
75c to 7u&c.
Corn was very quiet all day and even
when wheat traders were tumbling over
themselves In their eagerness to buy or
f.p | | , no sympathetic Interest was d'snlayed. '
The general feeling was linn , but fluctua
tions were confined to Uc. Itccelpts were
liberal and exports were much lighter than
of late , 3S9.000 bu. Mny opened unchanged
nt 2I',4c , advanced to 24'/ic ' , then reacted to
24V&C , where It closed.
The market for oats wa- dull to the ex
tent of stupidity. JHishicM was much
smaller than nn average neglected session
aggregates and absolutely nothing of any
Interest was reported. The feeling was
otondy , a shade higher. May opened at
17'ic , sold nt 17c and closed at 176c. !
1'rovlslons were easy and dull. It was In
a measure n day of liquidation by longs ,
the consequence being that yesterday's ad
vance was all lost. There was but little
outside demand , and thu Hog market was
weaker. At the close Mny pork was lc
lower at $1.05 , and May ribs 5c lower at
$4.m < . . .

CATTLE-Double yesterday's number of
cattle wns reported In toddy , in other
words , just a good , fair run for a Tuesday.
Quite n. good muny 'fat caltlo were here
today , though the most of them were not
of a very desirable kind or such as were
calculated to stimulate buying. The pack
ers wanted the cattln nt leas money tluin
they have been paylne < id they started
out bidding lOc lower In most cases. The
trade In consequence was slow from start
to Ilnlsh , but In thtf-ond tno offerings were
pretty well cleaned up. Handy medium
weight cattle seemed to bo the best sell
ers , and In son * citses holders of such
thought they received , fully ns good prices
as yesterday. Big- . * heavy cattle , es
pecially , those op. ilia coarslsh orelcr , ex
perienced the full extent of the weakness.
Cows and heiferssold about where they
did yesterday , artdllnthllo the market was
not very active , the offerings were all
taken In reasonably teed season.
The market oft stickers and feeders
could bo best described flat. The cause
for the market .bolng In such a condition
for so long u tltoe'lls to ue found In the
diminished country demand , consequent
upon the cold vveathpr and the Increased
receipts. Stormy-or olrt weather usually
keeps country buy'ert at home , and ns the
cattle have bcenjrorakng- quite freely the
past few days , thnrc has been an accumula
tion of stock cattle' In the yards. Specu ,
lators all had a good mnny on hand this
morning nnd were "poor buyers of the
