Woodmen of the World.
The members of the order are more or
legs worked up over the fight which Is on
Just now between the local lodges , particu
larly Alpha camp No. 1 , and the sovereign
officers. This column will make no moro
than mere mention of the condition , as a
full account of the dispute was published ex-
r'nalvely In The Dally Bee of lost week
The dispute has brought out the fact that
there Is a considerable amount of Ill-feeling
between Sovereign Commander Root and
the ofllccrs of Alpha cairn. This feeling has
manifested Itself In the shape of circulars
which both parties have Issued.
The facts In the matter , briefly stated ,
nro that Alpha camp Is contending for a
separate Jurisdiction , comprising the north
western states. The object Is separation
from the southern states , where It Is al
leged the death rate Is much higher
than In the north , and yet the northern
camps have been compelled to bear a portion
tion of the burden.
The sovereign officers fight the plan of a
separate Jurisdiction with head officers , as
they contend that It will mean the almost
absolute separation of the Jurisdiction from
the parent body , forming a small now or
der. They offer as a compromise the "de
partment" plan , which provides that the
northern states shall be assessed separately
from the southern and shall pay their death
losses , but also provides that the business
shall bo transacted through the sovereign
ofllcos in this city. If It Is decided that the
Jurisdiction shall have Us own officers the
sovereign officers intimate that the general
headquarters will be removed from this
city.The
The question will be fought out In a meas
ure In the convention head camp , composed
of representatives from the rubordlnate
camps In this state , North Dakota , South
Dakota , KanaB. Oklahoma and Indian Ter
ritory. ThU- body meets In Lincoln on Feb
ruary 2 , to elect delegates to th'o sovereign
camp , which meets for the first time as a
representative- In St. Louis in Marcli.
A etruggle will bo made to Instruct these
delegates tn favor of a separate Jurisdiction.
The final ( Ic'dslon will be made in the sov
ereign camp meeting. The local members
Intend to fight to the end , but ray that If
they ore defeated In the sovereign camp It
will end the matter. They only wish to be
heard.
Alpha camp No. 1 Is announcing that a
meeting of special Interest to all member ! )
