COMMERCIAL AND FINANCIAL Wheat Loses a Trifle Moro Than a Cent of Tuesday's ' Advance THAT CEREAL OPENS WITHOUT CHANGE Corn Pimm I'll nt ( lie Start , \V1illc UnlM Display tin l'nny KuolliiK Which Later Devi-toon CHICAGO , Dec. 20. Wheat today lost a trlflo moro tlmn 1 cent of the 2 cents ad vance It made yesterday. The recent rlso In prices finally proved too tempting to holders and profit-taking on a liberal scale was the main reason for the decline of the other markets. Oats ivcro especially licavy , breaklnw Ho. Con ; declined % c and inovlnlona wound up the session at sub- Htantlnlly unclinngcil figures. W.ieat opened nt substantially the price It closed nt yesterday. It did not remain long nt that , but quite a lot of loni ? wheat li.-ul to bo dumped Into the pit before the bull spirits became sulllclcntly diluted to tiHJumo thu nppcaranco of bcarlshncss , which a subsequent drop of Hie per bu. would Indicate. The discouraging Item of the early news which caused those longs who had profits to conclude to take them ( was an opening Liverpool advance of only jlil. Opening prices for May ranged from Ki'Hc to Sic , and there wax a largo glvo tin a take trade for about half an ( .lour , be tween the lower of these figures uml ht' c , only a very little , however , bringing tno latter price. It worked down to 83ic , re covered to 834c , and then took a long , de liberate slide to 82c. gutting to the latter point before 12 o'clock. Thu greater part or the Hewn , other than the Indifference of the Liverpool trade , was far from bear ish. Receipts at Minneapolis and Duluth wire 227 cars , compared with 373 cars on the corresponding day of the week before. Export clearances were JKO.OOO bu. In wheat and flour from Atlantic ports. Argentine news was more unfavorable t'.iiui ' any hith erto reported. A reliable Liverpool firm ca bled that the surplus of wheat for export would not exceed 12,000,000 bu. KtiSHlan Bhlpments were also said to bo light. The decline brought out some buying orders for export Into line. It wa > claimed , but details wcro not forthcoming up to the end of the session. The quantity clalmei to have been worked was about ICO 000 bu of No. 2 spring. The market got decidedly weak during the last hour on the weak closing cables , foreign selling at the sea board and heavy realizing. May llnallj Bold down to 82Vtc , but rallied to from S-c to 83c on buying against puts , and closed nt that figure. Corn was firm early In sympathy with wheat , but .weakened later as that market declined. The liberal exports over -100,0K bu , helped to steady the market , but illi not prevent some decline , the weakness IM-IIIK ; especially marked in the latter part of the session. Trade was slow and prin cipally of n scalping nature. May opcnet \inpianged nt 2."ie , sold between 257Ac am 2flo , and from 238o to 23.c { , closing easy a 23V c. Oats displayed an easy feeling nt the Btnrt , which later developed Into a very heavy tone. The market for u time re celvcd good support and held fairly steady lint during the Inet hour heavy sales b > nome Itn ortant Interests caused a sharp brea'.t. Part of Mis was recovered on i Rood local demand. May opened un changed nt 20Wc , declined to from lB'f.c to JStfc , and rallied to J3l4o bid , where 1 cloned. Trading In provisions was almost rx- rluslvoly of a changing over character The trend of prices was slightly down ward and there was In the end a slUht losn established In pork , other products Hhowlng practically no change , and a no time did prices have more than a cent fluctuation.
