( Special. ) --Notwithstanding that mjrj than a week has passed since the recent blizzard , re ports of a reliable nature are Just be- glnnlni ; to be received from remote portions wist of the Missouri river , eighty or 10J miles from railroad points or telegraph stations. It haa Lccn believed that no loss of lira resulted from the storm in South Dakota , but the belated reports from the remote sections referred to show that six and possibly eight persons perished In this state during or as the result of the terrible Ktorm , which will for years be re ferred to as one of the worst blizzards ever experienced In Dakota. An unknown man and boy" were frozen to death on the llclle Fourcho river. They went across to the north side of the stream during tlio.Ktorm for a load of hay , lost their bearings and perished. The bodies of two men known as "Scatty" urd Bob Carson , who were employed by John D. Hale of Tllford ca sheep herders , have been found since the etorm. When caught In the blizzard the men were on their way to Halo's ranch on Hcd Owl creek with eighty Iliad of sheep. They reached the Hello Fourcho river before being overcome b/ the elements. T.vo white men became bawlldcred within four miles of St. Mary's mission , on. the Uosubud Indian reservation , and attempted to make camp. Doth arc iiportcd to have succumbed to the storm. Probably the greatest losers by the bliz zard were the Lewis brothers , who owned a flock of 8,000 tiheep In the western part of Nowlln county. They not only loat 2,000 sheep , but William Lewis himself per ished In the blizzard , and Dr. J. Kenldy , an employe , died the following Monday from exposure during the storm. After-securing a portion of the sheep Washhcrn again hastened to Lewis' assistance , but /hk } employer had disappeared. Washbern , who had now reached a point many in lien from the tent , only saved his own life by following a wagon track , which took him ito a house wagon , which had been driven into a sheltered bend of Buzzard creek by Its owner. All nlfiht long Dr. Kenldy remained In the tent with the blizzard howling through the holes In the canvas and filling the Interior with EIIOUA hardy Indian pony that was picketed outside BO securely that It could not get loose , was frozen to death. The mob of Hay country farmers who lynched Juscilo Winner and James Ncltwn at Lexington curly yesterday morning were not mistaken In their confidence that Winner and Nelson were tbo slayers of Mr , Winner and her two children , If the statement made hero tonight by Maggie Catron be true. Sli.e had lived with the Winners and at the time of the murder was much In the company of Winner and Lon Lackey , the prisoner who was brought here from Lexington on Satur day last and who was taken to Kan TOE City today to guard against a second lynching. Tonight Maggie Catron made the following statement : "My knowledge has mostly been gained through Lon Lackey , since the mtirdci wao committed. On the night following the preliminary trial , I stayed at my brother's homo and Lackey came down to sec me. I nuked him what ho knew of the murder and ho cald ho guessed ho knew all about It. Ho oaltl that on the night of the murder , Winner and NclEon asked him If ho did not want to make a moonlight trip out north of town , 'o which he answered yes. Ho ( Lackey ) said they drove to the gate leading to Win ner's home , when the latter icinarkcd that , as he was so close to home , he believed ho would get out and stay , whereupon Nelson _ - son got out and told Lackey to hold the horses until ho came back. They were gone for quite a while , when both canio bac'f , got Into the buggy and started home. Then It was that Nelson spoke up and told Lackey what had been done and made him swear to keep Ellcnt. I do not know anything directly , only what Lackey has told me. " The Catron girl stated further that she hai been threatened during the day by friends of Nelson , one of the men lynched , ns five women had visited her during the day and every ono of them had told her she would bo lynched. When Lackey wao taken away today , ho was driven pa t the wagon which conveyed tlio bodle.s of Winner and Nelson to this place.
