Meteor won easily In ber clns and
Niagara easily headed the vrocesslon of the
twenty-raters. The race was decIdedly disappointing -
appointing in many respects. Up to 12lu : )
p. m only' the faintest airs had assisted the
race , but Meteor had stnhen away to the
westward and 'was about a tulle ahead of
Satanlta. Only these two yachts had sue-
ceoded in weathering the pier and further
o&t In the channel , liritannia antI Ailsa were
obliged to anchor In order to Prevent the
tide from drifting thorn away.
The twenty-raters vore also having an
iinatisfactory time. The Saint bad a long
3end on Niagara. but Penitent was badly
handicapped , about fifty mInutes o1aIsIzl before -
fore she was able to cross the line and get
away In chase of her opponents.
When the tide changed from the ebb to
Uio flood at 1 o'clock , the wind collie from
the east , throwing Meteor wide to the leo-
ward. Yet she reached so fast that she led
AiIsa four iniutites around the Varne buoy
and ted Britannla six minutes around the
same mark. After a beat of iiino miles to
the South Sand lightship against tIde anil
with a moderate breeze , Meteor led
l3rltannla iiino minutes and was eleven mm.
titcs aheint of Ailsa. On the home with
aplnakers set the dIstance , about six miles ,
was malO ( with a fair rate and Meteor fin-
1uiod well ahead or liar competitors. The
match was stopped at the end of thIs round ,
making the course only about twonty-to
miles instead of about forty-four miles.

Meteor bad a trial today on all points of
sailing and showed marked superiority on
each. In a true club topsail breeze and a

Brltaunla. A trial in a fresh wInd and with
sea enough to fairly test both craft is

beaten under such circumstances. Although

SAN FRANCISCO. Juno 8.-The arrangements -
ments for the tour.round go between Jaimies
.7. Corbett , champion heavyweight of the
world , and Toni Sharkey of local fame have
been conciudeil , and the mill wIll take place ,
unless untorseen circumstances prevent , on
Wednesday of imest veolc. The fight viii
lie under the auspices of the National Aht.
ictic club.
Janies J. Corhctt and Thomas Sharloy
met this afternoon and signed articles of
agreetnent f9r a four-round bout mitider the
auspices of the National Athletic club on
Wednesday evening , Jimmie 21. The contest
% , iii be fought uiitle marquis of Queens-
berry rules viili five-ounce gloves , the decision -
cision to be made by a referee to be selected -
lected at the ring side. Corbott is to have
50 11cr cent of the gross receipts. It Sham'-
key houid gain the decision he will to-
ceive 35 per cent of time net procceils and
if it is declared a draw the marine will re-
ceiro 25 Per cent of time net vroceeds
Thu first idea was that Corbett was to get
50 her cent of the gross receipts , imrovidei
he Put Sharkey omit In tour rounds. As it
hOW stands Jima viii get the 50 per cent no
imiatter what the outcome of the contest may
be. So tar as Sharkey is concerned the club
will look out for his financial Interests. If
he should hut UI ) a better light during the
four rotiiidii thmali Corbett he will be entItled
to the decision. lii oIlier words , the decision
will ho on the merits of the contest. Sharkoy
will not be entitled to a draw if Corhott tails
to knock hurt alit. Of course , if Corbott is
knocked out Sharkey will be entitled to tijo
decision. The only way in which ho can
obtain a draw , however. Is to make equally
as good a light as his opponent.
Scai'ccly anything else was discUssed in
sporting circles , the clubs and by the men
about town , At first the people were in-
dined to think the ailair wan all a hoax , but
when they vero assured that Corbctt had
roaliy consented to meet time local mnami they
comotenced speculating on the probabie out.
comae.
Although Corbctt does not contend that he
will put out the marine in the specified time ,
lie admits that ho viil administer a terrific
beating to him. lie says the real reason for
his accepting the proposition is his desire to
prove to his friends that the stories of his
degeneration are out of joint.
his decision to meet Sharkey will potporie
his trip to Europe three weeks. Ho was to
start east Tuesday. Yesterday he cabled to
\v. A. Brady , his manager , the reason for liii
remaining over. He will begin active train-
log at once. The Olympic club will be his
headquarters. Sharkey will train in Oak-
land.
Sharkoy is confident. lie says ho will put
up all ho has on his ability to stay out the
four rounmls. "I do not think there is a man
living who can put me out in that space of
time , " ho said. "There is a great deal of
difference in a man fighting a man who wants
to fight back and going after a man who
knows that au he has to do is to keep away
for a short period of time. Of Cburso I do
not for a moment place myself on a par with
Corbett so far as science Is concerned , but I
fill positive that lie will never punish me out
In four rounds. "
