Poor sidewalks are claimed to be the cause of three suits which arc about to begun against the city. N. C. Phillips , the city clerk , was served yesterday with a notice that Mrs. K. Pedersen , on or about Decem ber 27 , would flle In the district court a pe tition claiming ? 5,000 damages from the city by reason of Injuries Inflicted by a fall on a piece of defective sidewalk. Her husband also filed notice that he would begin a suit for $1,000 damages un the same date on account of the injuries sustained by hia wife. George Gelsler comd notice that he would file a petition for $5,000 on the same grounds. All thes cases were brought before the council not long ago and referred to the judiciary committee , by whom an adverse re port was made. Jensen and the stranger went to Hammond's and iald the proposition bifore R'ismussen , who quit his Job at once and left with the stranger. Munson of Lemars arrived at Cherokee Monday evening In search of the Standlsh Entertaining company , a quartet of gay young things who have been starring It through this section of the country , giving entertainments in small towns along the line of the Iowa Central. Munson Informed a re porter that the party , which consists of two foolish youths and a like number of the gentler sex , who are rather handsome , were wanted at Lemars for jumping a board bill. It has since developed that the parties were passing themselves as married couples , and that such Is not the case , and that they were wanted on a more serious charge. The constable had scarcely made his mis sion known to the authorities here before he landed C. J. Mlllner , one of the men , who had just arrived on the freight from the south. It was learned that the rest of the troup were stranded at Smlthland , so tbo officer boarded tha southbound passenger at noon today and arrived In town with the en tire party this evening. In the meantime Mlllner awaited his return at the county Jail. The names of the parties as given by them are : E. J. Mlllner , Qucenle Mlllner , W. H. Standlsh and Bessie Standlsh. The names are no doubt assumed ones , as It has since developed that Mies Queenle's name Is not Mlllner , and that Eh'e , Is a 16-year-old Le mars girl.
