Sh thereupon consulted "Judge" Adler , now gene to Sing Sing , nnd he told her the proper thing to do was to get a writ of replevin. The "Judge" did not know how- to go nt It , and he called In Schurz to draw up the necessary papers. After this part of the procesdlngs had been finished Mrs. Ack- erman found she could not put up the re- qulied bond , and so the deal fell through , after sh& had paid Adler $40. Adler wanted another $100 , hut Mrs. Ackemian drew the lln ? . He began suit , but unfortunately tor him , had to leave the city about that time , and got Into the New York penitentiary before the suit could be brought to trial. Now the Schurz boys hnvo brought suit for $100 , and the trial came off before Judg > Smith and a Jury yesterday. The defense put up the plea that neither of the. Schur/es had over bjen emploved by her as attorney , and that they must look to Adler , If any body , for their pay. The case went to the Jury nt the hour of evening adjournment , with Instructions to return a sealed verdict. About 9 o'clock the. verdict was agre'd upon and handed to the bailiff. ( Special Tel egram. ) Merchants In this city have been missing goods for some tlmo past. Today a search warrant was Issued and at the resi dence of Mrs. Rose Shadel a large quantity of goods was found that had been stolen from B. F. Darr's dry goods store by Mrs Shadel and Mrs. E. H. Plumlcy. The search war rant was Issued after the clerks had seen the ladles secreting goods and taking them from the store. Warrants were. Issued for their arrest. Tonight officers have warrants for searching several other residences and It Is expected they will round up as dangerous a gang of shoplifters as ever operated In this section. Lvenl Point In Ion a. JEFFERSON , la. , Dec. 9. ( Special. ) Tin decision of the supreme court of Iowa In the case of Hatcher vs. Dunn , Healy and others , touching the responsibility of the state oil Inspector , Is awaited with Interest. Healy , deputy inspector , inspected a large quantity of oil In bulk at Cedar Rapids , which was afterward barreled nnd branded by Healy "approved , flash test 106 degress " Part of this was shipped to a groceryman at Tlpton , la. , nnd ECld out to patrons , one of whom was a Mr. Hatcher. When placed In a lamp and lighted , the oil exploded , burneJ the house and contents and injured Hatcher se verely. Oil from the same barrel was tested by the city authorities and It only tested 102 to 104 dcgr.es. Hatcher sued Healy and recovered Judgment In the district court for $2,900. Healy appealed , setting up the claim that he would not bo liable unless the branding was knowingly false. Henderson , a large creditor of the Leeds Improvement and Land company of this place , has sued the American Loan and Trust company for $10,000 damages for Its alleged surrender of $205,000 of an issue of bonds to the Locds company upon which he had a claim and upon which he bad served attachment papers , The American company's action In releasing the bonds after ho at tached them ho alleges has prevented him from collecting bis debt. ( Special Tele gram. ) The coroner's Jury , after an all day's cession , hearing the testimony of moro than a dozen witnesses , returned a verdict that G. W.
