SAN FRANCISCO , Oct. .17.-Dllrrant's attorneys .
torneys expect to conclude the Case or the defense -
fenso next JIIondoy. There Is rio truth In the
report that the counsel for Durrant has disagreed -
agreed and that Deuprey was making an ex-
cuse or his opportune illness to get out of the
case. The most perfect , ' harmony exIsts be-
tween General DIckInson and Mr. DCouprey.
In speaking or the friendly , feeling which
exists between the Ittorneys > ! ; General'Dlckln-
son said : "The defense has tried this case
fairly and It Is gratifying ! to know that
there has been no vindIctive spirit shown by
I IIIY : one or the attorneys. 'Ve have defended
the accused to the best or our ability , firmly
believing In his Innocence from the start.
The case or the defense will rest on the
merits of Its testimony A great many of the
leading attorneys have spoken to mo about
our action In putting Durrant on the stand
We did that In order to give the young man a
chance to tell his story In his own words.
The legal brethren have been disposed to
crltlclsa us for permitting Durrant to tell the
'story or the unknown man and or hIs going to
the rerry. The object In allowing him to re-
late thIs was to convince ' , the jury and the
public that Durrant was telling his own story
and not repeating a memorIzed statement.
It was" to show that the young man was not
coached "
