face of yesterday's strength here und what
appeared to bo heavy receipts nt Dululli.
gave the wheat matkct n very wctik start.
The decline of "ic at the opening In Liver
pool was satd to bo duo to n disappointing
demand for fpot wheat. The receipt * at
JJuluth were largely comprised of whenl
sold nt Minneapolis to po east via the lake
port , nnd of 315 cars reported at Unliitli
tlila morning 2iO cars were from Minne
apolis. That explanation did not have any
effect , however. In arresting the decline or
changing the bearlPhncss with which the
crowd commenced. Nothing oecurieil to
dlatui b the serenity of the short sellers until
n synopsis of the OraiiRC Judd l < "nnnpr's
crop it-port for the month was made public.
On the Information afforded by that the
price of September recovered .from around
70He to 7l'c ' , although the ciulck advance
nt St. Louis about the same time was at
tributed to the recovery. According to the
agricultural publication referred to , the
average condition of spring wheat has boon
reduced six points this month. The fulling
off In South Dakota Is suventeen points , I
Washington , nineteen points ; In Minnesota
eight points , nnd North Dakota , five points
The iivcrngii condition Indicates a crop of
about Jf.B.OOO.OOO . Im. , of which 120.tWO.000 bu. Is
credited to Minnesota and the Dakotsis.
The estimate of the Pacific const crop Is
reduced from 70WOUOO to lO.OW.OOO , nnd the
total winter wheat Is tentatively estimated
nt perhaps less than ten bu. per acre. It
estimates the entire crop nt 450,000.000
nualnst 420,000,000 on July 1. The Atlantic
port clearances were acain disappointingly
light , the wheat amounting to only 20,181
bu. nnd the Hour to 13.285 bbls. I'rlmarv
market receipts were rather heavy , but still
very much below last year's movements.
The total received at western markets was
4..8,000 bit. , against 1,239.000 bu. n year ago ,
light and largely on local account.
The corn market ruled lower today , but
Rhowcd u considerable amount of firmness
at the decline. The cool weather prevailing
raised visions of possible frost In the minds
of the speculators , and that was the sus
taining Influence which prevented the pres
ent prospect of a crop of over 2,250,000 bu. .
as estimated by the Orange Judd Farmer ,
from causing more weakness. The local
speculative feature was early selling of a
rather aggressive character by Ilartlctt-
Krazler & Co. , followed by equally bold buyIng -
Ing by Haldwln-liarnum and the Il.irret
Ilros. Speculation was on the whole light.
Ilccclpts for the day were 417 cars. Spot
opened nt 43c , dropped at once to 42c , Im
proved to 43c to 43'&c ' , declined again to
42c to 427 c , and at the clofo was worth
43c. May ranged from 23ic to 35c to 3j-)4c ,
nnd closed nt S.n-&c bid.
Oat were dull and featureless. The mar
ket followed the course laid out by wheat
nnd corn , nnd while doing so met with very
few sales. The early market was more
active than later on In the session. The
demand for choice oats continued and was
the principal feature of the market and In
fluenced a higher price for July.
Provisions were dull , the market being
dominated by the slackness of the cash
demand , weakened by the lower prices for
live hogs. A private estimate of the stocks
of provisions shows remarkably little
change for the month. It makes park stock *
the eamo as on July 1. lard 4,000 tierces nnd
, ribs 2,000.000 Ibs. less than n month ago.
The opening prices were nt respective re
ductions from yesterday's closing quota
tions In pork nnd lard and ribs of 17' , < .c and
2Vic. I'ork declined another JOc In the fore-
neon and another 15c near the close.
Estimates for tomorrow : Wheat , 92 cars ;
corn , 238 cars ; oats , 103 cars ; hogs , 12,000
head.

NKW YORK. July JO. tn certain speculative
circles It was thought the return to the Treasury
department of gold withdrawn for export this
month nnd the raising of the gold reserve to the
high level would net as a lever on the stock
market this morning. The Incident iHtieed un
noticed , however. Just as did the recent gold
withdrawals for export , and It would reem that
slight variations nf Hie government finances arc
not factors of Wall street speculation at this
time.

The receipts for the two days of this week

Monday nnd Tuesday of last week.
One year ago today the receipts of hogs
were 20,000.
CATTLE The receipts of cattle were not
large , there being less than half the number
hero yesterday and 300 head less than were
received on Tuesday of last week. Of the
slxty-ono loads here today thirteen were
consigned to the packers.
The proportion of good beef steers among
the offerings today was somewhat larger
than the average of late. There were better
cattle than have been Been hero In a long
time. One bunch of prime beeves sold nt K
and some pretty good 1,220-lb. natives
sold at $ .C3. The market was reasonably
active nnd a little stronger. Everything de
sirable changed hands early In the day.
There were nbout twenty loads of cows
and heifers In the yards. There was a good
demand and the offerings were soon cleaned
up. It was a good , strong and active mar
ket. Une load of peed natives reached $3
and quite a string of westerns sold nt the
si. me price.
Slockers and feeders were not In very
lc.rge supply. The demand , however , was
good.and the offerings were soon cleaned up
at about steady prices. Quite a string of
westerns sold at $3.50 to $3.75. The good
prospects for a large crop of corn have cre
ated a lively demand for good feeders , and
there Is more activity In the feeder division
than nny other part of the yards , llepre-

HOGS There were fifty-seven fresh lends la the
yards today. It would have been considered
very moderate run n year ngo. hut nt the present
time It looked Inrito. Ill fuel. It wna the largest
run for nny day this month. Another feature of
the day' * receipts Is the faet Hint twenty-three
lends , or nlmost one-lmlf of the hOR received
rnme from Iowa. They were heavy and mixed
loads thnt have been going enpt tind meeting
with BUCh poor sale there they have been changed
In tills market.
The nr t report from Chicago Indicated n
stmdy mnrket and the shippers here picked up
n few light loads nt about steady prices. Our
rlmlco load of light hogs renehed $5 , which was
as high as nnythlng brought yesterdny or on
Saturday. A little Inter the reports came from
Chicago Indicating n big break In the mgrket
there , nnd by the time the buyers here really
got down to business the mnrket wnn fiorn lOc to
15c lower. The decline wus the greatest on th
heavy und mixed loads. As usual on n down
market salesmen were slow about making the
concession and the mnlkrt Was Inclined to drag.
