CKICACIO , July 28. Recall's of the evi
dence of u heavy spring crop wheat Bet
another section of Wednesday' ? heavy rl
taken off todny. The decline nt one time
amounted to Mic per Int. , und al the close
the prlco was still He lower thnn nt the
corresponding time of the day before. Corn
wan weak nnd closed lie lower for Sop
tembcr , and September onls lost lie. Pie
visions declined also , although hog receipts
were very small.
Owing to nn unexplained firmness In
Liverpool the wheat mnrket hero started
-at an advance of from Vic to s c over the
closing prlco of the day before. The first
trades wcro at from 71c to 71V4e for Sep
tember , and In the tlmo referred to the
prlco hnd tumbled to G0c. The principal
cauo of ( he early break was the circula
tion of nn article In the Cincinnati Price
Current. The particulars of the day's re
ceipts of wheat at primary markets were
na bullish as ever. The export clearances
from the seaports were small. The Inspec
tion In the storehouse wns & 5 curn.of which
nlno cars were No. 2 red. On the corresponding
spending day a year HBO 83 cars were re
ceived , of which four were of the contract
grade. Primary mnrket receipts were 490-
000 bu. , against l.OTjI.OOO bu. a year ago. Of
100,000 hu. received nt Toledo today H4 , K )
bu. were from CMtlcngo. The export clear
ance of wheat and flour amounted to 199OUO
bu. Spot wheat In Liverpool wns Id higher
at the opening. Indicating present scarcity ,
although no much IB being said of the heavy
Phlpment from Russia and elsewhere. A
St. Louis dispatch said three mill * hnd
Hhtlt down there on account of the
poor demand for flour , nnd that was one of
the clubs used to pound the market here.
The closing cables were generally lower ,
doubtless because of n decline here , but
they hnd n reflex action on prices nnd the
curly weakness continued until September
got down to CDHc. It recovered again to
CSTdo , but closed at Kic , after a decline to
CO'lc.
Corn wns weak , and although September
declined about Iu per bu. , the trade was
not very active. The cash purchases for
shipment today amounted to 200,000 bu.
The break In wheat had Influence In the
dump , which occurred In corn. September
opened nt from 44 io to 43'ic ' , against 43Hc
at the close of yesterday. It worked grad
ually down to 43c , but recovered the early
loss to 41'ic.
Oats were fairly active In the early part
of the session , but slackened up later and
closed rather quiet. The feeling was easier
during the greater part of the session ,
almost entirely through sympathy with
wheat and corn. September opened nt 25 ! c ,
Fold down to 22'ic to ? c , and closed at
22' ' c.
The provision market was lifeless nnd
heavy. Hcceipts of hogs were quite light ,
hut the market appears to he suffering
from the liberal receipts enrll In the sea
son and the consequent accumulation of
manufactured poods. Pork , compared
with Itn closing prices yesterday , Is 7'/ic
lower , lard and ribs each 2'/.c { lower.

LONDON , July 26.-Slxteen hundred cases of
California fruit which arrived nt Southampton
from New York by the steamship St. Louis nt
8:15 : yeslerday moinlng were sold nt auction nt
Covent Garden , fetching prices which were one-
half below those of last week. The plums av
eraged 7s lOd per cae. the peaches Ss and the
pears 11s 7d.
Tiiere was a large crowd of buyers present In
the market. The auctioneer first sold 31 cases
of plums packed by the Joe Anderson Fruit
company of San Jose , and he was obliged to use
n great deal of labor to hell them at 7s Cd a case.
He explained lo the crowd that the last lot of
fruit came over the sea In the refrigerator com
partments of the steamship , and as a consequence
quence they turned dark when exposed to the
air. The present goods , he assured the pros
pective buyers , were In Ixrtter shape. The fec
und lot nf plums , shipped by Btroper of S.m
Jcse. sold nt 8s 9d per case. T.ie Crawford
peaches , packed by the National Fruit company
of Itlverslde , sold readily at in 9d. Heie the
sale languished , but the auctioneer urged the
crottd to buy , saying that the lust lot of fruit
was picked too soon , and that the present lot
wns of n better size. Under this stimulus Mr.
W.'ilte sold 1DO cafes of pears , packed by Sol
Ilunynn of Courtland , which brought 9s per
case. Then he auctioned off nn extra lol ot
pears , packed by II. Mayers of Itlverslde. They
brought 13s per case.
The buyers Informed n representative of the
Associated press that the fruit was a better qual
ity than the last consignment. Still they do
not think that more money can be made wllh
the American fruit than French fiult. The best
lot was 50 cases of pears packed by the National
Fruit company , which brought 14s Cd.
Mr , White Inslsls that the Hist lot of fruit
WHS sent over In the refrigerator compartments
