CHICAGO , June 19. The cpcculntlvo mar
kets were nil very wenk today , more es
pecially wheat. The heavy decline of 2ic
per bu. In the price of wheat wan sold to
bo because of the prospect of gold ship
ments In the near future. Heavy selling
orders from New York were said to have
been Induced by anticipations of that char
acter. Corn subsided lo per bd. on the
progress being made by the next crop ,
oats lost % c , and provisions weakened In
nyrnpnthy with the decline In grain. The
demand for wheat nt the opening was
much less active than It wns at the clone
of the previous day's session. July found
no buying nt the start at over 74'ic , and
there wns no general demand at over 74c.
At the latter price , however , nnd nt 73c ,
nt which there were a few sellers for un
Instant , the demand exceeded the supply
nnd for half an hour It kept growing , anil
so also did the price. At 10 o'clock the
trading was nt 74ic , and It held between
that and 74c for an hour thereafter. The
weakness at the openingwns because of
the small account taken by 13uroi > e of the
advance here yesterday , cables being gen
erally lower , 'llie reaction which nuccouded
the opening decline was due to reports
from various quarters of rain Interlerlng
with the harvest anil of some foreign buyIng -
Ing Of futures here nml ut New York.
The firmer feeling , tinder which the price-
had advanced to 74c , was replaced by
weakness again , and by 10H5 o'clock It
was back to 74c. On the decline which
followed the early advance the price
touched 73c , but there wns buying enough
to stop the decline and cause another re
action , which , however , was arrested at
73Uc. and the next decline wns to 73V4c ,
which wan current about lt:60 : a. m. The
weakness was first on account of the small
export clearances , which from the four
principal ports amounted to only H'J.OOO bu.
In wheat nnd Hour together. That wns
followed by very weak closing cables from
Liverpool. Some private dispatches reportpd
the decline since yesterday at I'/id per
cental. Berlin nnd Paris were quoted a
trlllo higher. The reports from the winter
wheat states were confirmatory of the very
Rerlous damage previously announced , but
from the pprlng wheat states reports of
the most glowing character na to the mag
nificent outlook made a bright backgrounil
of the otherwise somber picture. An at
tempt wns mode to represent the Krosn-
hoppcrs on the spring wheat crop , but II
was unsuccessful , and shortly after 12
o'clock the traders were strugcllns with
July wheat down around 73c. The pros
pect of gold shipments In the near future
was talked of as a bear feature and given
an the reason for the heavy New York
pelting which marked the pension. Some
cash wheat was reported Bold here to go to
Milwaukee , and New York reported some
Inquiry for export , but It was for spring
wheat , and the quantity wanted was nol
largo enough to have any Influence In ar
resting the decline started by the weak
close to the Liverpool market. The de
cline to 73c caught a good many stop loss
orders , the selling In consequence of which
caused n further decline to the lowest point
recorded on the break of two days ngo. A
few minutes from the close there were
Hellers of July wheat at 72c , and It closed
nt 71o sellers after a sudden drop to .
September gold nt 73V4c , and that was the
closing price.
The corn market was firm for n time
near the opening , but when wheat showeil
Bitch heaviness the corn market turneil
around and also became very heavy. The
receipts gave no evidence of becoming Im
mediately larger , nnd they were small to
day. The opening price for July waH from
tOc to EOHc. and from % o to Vic pain on
yesterday's closing prices. It quickly de
clined to K > ! c , but recovered again to
COHc before It commenced the other down
turn , from which there was no recovery ,
nnd 4DHc to 49Uc was the bottom of the
decline , where the price rooted.
Only a fair amount of business was trans
acted In oats. The market followed wheat
and corn during the entire session. Sep
tember ranged from 23' , < ) O to 2SVic , resting at
the low price.
The provision market appeared to be
Bwayed In the direction of the fluctuations
In grain. The fluctuations In the hots pro
ducts were confined to a narrow ranee ,
but after the flrst half hour of the session
the tendency was downward , and the mar
ket rested nt the lowest figures of the day.
Pork , compared with yesterday's closing
rate. Is IZ'/to lower , lard Gc , nnd ribs 7Uc
lower. Hoc receipts today were 27,000 head.
Kstlmated receipts for Thursday : Wheat ,
40 cars ; com , 90 cars ; oats , 120 cars ; hogs ,
27,000 hend.

Arkansas for pome little time past has been very
unfavorable for the marketing of potatoes. There
have been steady lalns which have kept the
