grim. ) The Omahogn fell on Rockford today
like a hlroJ man on hlo dinner and bstted
cvrry pitcher the homo club had until the
fences were nearly demolished. In the third
Inning MX hits and three errors netted seven
runs , and Underwood was taken out of the
box , being relieved by Lcbbln , who waa wild
ns a circus menagerie. He gave four basei
on balls and was hit for a single , double and
three-bagger. Snydcr became disgusted anJ
refused to catch I.ebbln , and Fleming was put
In the box , Kllng being called In to catch.
Fleming could not stay the tide of hits and
the game was Omaha's unanimously. Ilalsz
was hit freely and was wild. Ilockford batted
well , but fleHcd listlessly , nnd hits were not
placed well. Omaha played a good fielding
game , Ulrlch , Hutchlnson and O'Urlen execut
ing a neat double play. The marvelous second
end base playing of Lorctt was the feature of
the game , ho making a phenomenal one-hand
Jumping catch. Stupid fielding by Krclg and
VIsncr gave Omaha many hits. The game
waa protuBtod by Manager Nlcoll before It
was played. President Kent telegraphed
Umpire Snydcr not to let Shaffer play , as ho
was blacklisted. President Young of the na
tional board telegraphed that the blacklist
had been removed. Nlcoll only let Shaffer
play under protest. Score :

There was no dlmlntshmcnt In the attend-
nco at Union Park yesterday afternoon. It
was the third day of the races , and again
voro the stands and promenades crowded do-
plto the very threatening aspect of the
veather. Hy 1 o'clock the sky was enshroud-
* el with heavy , leaden clouda and rain was
hrcatencd from almost every direction , and
his , of course , had a tendency to keep many
at home. Still there was a line crowd on
land to hear the first tap of the bell , as
many as on either of the previous days , and
hey remained until the afternoon's card was
run out , for there was no rain. There was
considerable wind and dust , however , and
his very materially Interfered with the peo-
ilo's enjoyment , yet the racing was so good ,
so slurp and decisive and so full of surpr sea
that but few had time to think of physical
conditions.
Four prime favorites , and Constant , who
won for the talent In the fourth race , se
cured her verdict by n scant head In the
last few strides. The betting ring was a
lorfect hlvo of anxious , clamoring men , and
It was evident there was a force out for
lively speculation , and In the third race the
boys made a killing on Huntsman , a rank
outsider , the Wllkorson Kansas City book
catching It particularly hard. The surprise
party was a 10 to 1 shot.
The foreign book of Morrison & Whlto had
the shutters up yesterday , owing to a mis
understanding with the National Racing
board In regard to the day's rate. The book
makers had a contract for a certain amount ,
but the racing board's bill Just doubled this
and the ticket peddlers concluded to dlscon-
tlnr.9 until the defugelty could bo straight
ened out. They will bo running all right
this afternoon , and will again cut In on the
locals' emoluments , as the foreign book has
been played hard.
TWELVE TRAVELED TOGETHER.
Little Ell was Installed as favorite In the
opening half , but fhe went back to 4 to 1 In
the closing betting. Hand's black mare was
made the medium of a steady plunge and V.M
cut from S to 1 to 2 to 2 , mil justified the
bookies' misgivings by winning by a half head
In a Garrison finish. There were twelve In
the field , and Starter Perry sent them off
beautifully on the first trial. Little Ell , the
favorite , scampereJ In the lead , closely
pressed by Lydla Wright. At the quarter
Susie Nell and Lucy Day both Jumped ahead
of Ell and Wright and stayed there to the
enJ of the trip , Suslo Nell with a head the
best of Lucy , and Lucy a length and a half
In front of thn favorite.
Another round dozen got away In the second
event , five furlong. ? . Republic was the choice
of the astute division , but Dorduror , John P
anl Earnest L each had a host of supporters.
Republic and Earnest L cut .out a fast pace
at the start and killed each other off , so far
as first place waa concerned. Dordercr , Re
public and John P came fast to the stretch ,
and a desperate struggle followed. Borderer
winning by a head. The boat odds offered
against Borderer were 3 to 2.
WHERE THE KILLING WAS MADE.
In the tlilnl race , six furlongs , Eraco and
Lopez were the choice of the talent. They
were both quoted at 4 to 1 , but the pencllers
refused to take money at thcso odda and
cut the price to oven money. There was a
very natural disinclination to play thes3
ridiculously short odds on the two , and just
before the start the price stretched a little.
After the race wcs over and Huntiman had
romped in an easy winner the bookmakers
knew all about It , and ono was heard to say
that ho wanted to offer 5 to 1 against either
Erace or Lopez and take all the money In
sight , as both finished miserably In the ruck.
The mlle race was a bute. There was a
short vacillation In the think tanks of the
talent between Long Ten , Leonell and Con
stant , but the right tip quickly came , nnd
Constant waa the star on the blackboard. She
was a good choice , for notwithstanding a ba.i
start nnd a continued plug from wire to wire
she won handily , with Loenell second and
Long Ton third , Bcetoni and Gray Duke sc
far behind that it required a Lick telescope
to pick them out of the duet.
The last race of the day was six and a hall
furlongs , with a Held of nine to go. There
va.s considerable tardiness In getting their
.way , but Butler finally isiicceedeJ nicely , and
no minute and two eeconds later the day's
port was done , Snarlcy , a C to 1 shot , beatlnp
Artless , the favorite , and Onze and Sli
harles , 4 to 1 phots , by three lengths. Th (

Sometimes persons become blind from
impure blood , which develops scroful
