Caspar and 192 others was presented , asking the counci to pass an ordinance forbIdding any street raIl- way company to run its trains at a greiter sped than six miles an hour. An ordinance accompanied it. Mr. Casper and Mr. Iunyan made speeches , from which I appeared that the cause for their complaint was not so much that the trains were beIng run too fast as It was that the compnny hall recently given upper Broadway the cold shoulder and commenced running all the Omaha trains down Main street. Casper said that another petition had been circulated al over the city by a brother of the motor company's electrician but the , young man wandered Into a motor train one day to tale signatures and Superintendent Dlmmock of the motor company learned of it. He had compelled the electrician to get the paper away from his brother and so I was missing. After the meeting was over the animus of the move was made stIll more apparent by Casper exclalnlng : "We don't want the trains run any different , or at least we don't want them so very bad ; were just using this IS a club. " The ordinance was referred to the judIcIary committee. Alderman Spetman called the attention of the councIl to the fact that there were $40,000 of Intersection paving bonds that could be refunded at a lower rate of Interest than they were now drawing , and at his sugges. ton the finance commlteo were Instructed to begin correspondence with bond purchasers for the purpose or making the desired change.
