It out ot Its just dues , and the police accuse
the company or trying to cheat tme citizens
ot their hlgimt. The later fact , however , Is
not 50 much a cause of grief tO th police
as the tact that the city council has deter-
mined to enter upon a season ot "retrench-
mont and rerorm" and has cut all but one
entail burner off at the police headquarters.
I has been the custom for the ofcers to
report any lights that may be off on theIr respective - i

A memorandum Is kept there , and this ts
used at tile ene ot the month when the light
commlteo comes to check up the bill or time
company , and deductions are made accord-
Ingly for whatever light has been lost. The
representatives ot the company assert that
one time not so very long ago something was
wrong with one of tim lights on the tower at
tIme corer or Droadway and Fourth street. A
lineman was sent there to look up the mls-
chief , and the light on the whole tower was
turned off whie ho was al work , I period ot I
between seven and ten minutes But It happened - i
pened that at one or thosO seven or ten minutes -
utes an eagle eye looked out from bneath a

'
credit for the tower that night.
One other time , they claim , the policeman
faIled to give the company credit for a light
that hung behind a house that was being
moved thmrougim the middle or the street and
these arc only samples of the way In which
they have been given the worst ot It rIght
along.
After the repairs at the police headquarters
time company's representatives claim the po-
Ice became somewhat more fastidious than
berore and procured six nry.candlo power
Incandescent burners ant four twenty-Ih"-

running at the same expense that had be-
fore atached to two thirty.canlle power and
