winter session of the Lancaster County
Teachers' association was held today In the
' rooms of the county superintendent. There
were over 100 teachers Present when the
president , Mr.Hawes of College "View , called
; the association to order. In concluding the
morning program Superintendent Beer said
that ho was well pleased with the result of
the district meeting. lie said that there
should be to aimless teaching , but that the
teaching of language was the most aimless
done. The program for the afternoon was on
Oliver Wendell Holmes , and the subject was
discussed by Pror. Sherman of the State
university , Prof. Clark of the Western Nor-
mal and State Superintendent-elect Corbett
Chancellor Canfield addressed the association
on behalf of the state association

Fleming harrison , a colored man , wa
found dead In a plum thicket on the farm
of L. D. Shaw , near Hawthorne yesterday
afternoon. 110 had been dead but a short
tlmo as the bOdy was still warm. He was
discovered by an emllloye o'f A. 1'01. ' Trimble ,
lying face downward on time ground. Deputy
Sheriff Dillon took charge of the remains ,
but no Inquest was thought necessary.

AUDURN , Neb. , Dec. 16.-SpecIIlI.-The {
trial of J. W. Argabright on the charge of

murder in the first degree for the ' killing or
his fathor-In-Iaw , William Smeltzer , Is set
for MondllY. The accused , Is a young man of
about 30 , and was raised In this county.
About five 01' six ' years ago ho married II
daughter of William Smeltzer . . two children
being born to them
About three years ago Argabright moved
to South Omaha , where ho was employed ILS
governmen meat tagger In Hammond's pack-
Ing establishment and held that position until
removed by Secretary Morton. He then
went on the police t\Jrce of South Omaha ,
and at the time of the killing was still on
the farce. His family relation were not
the most pleasant. and about a year ago his
wife left him and returned to hr ! father In
this county , bringing the two children with
her. _
Last February Argabright came down to
see time children , ns ho claimed stopping at
his father's whose residence Is near that of
Smellzer'a. On the night of February 10
there was , a school exhibition In the school
house In the nehhborhootl , and both Arga-
bright and Smeltzer were there. After the
exhibition was over the parties came together -
gether , had some words , wlllcn resulted In
Argabright pulling his revolver and shooting
Smeltzer twice With fatal elrect. Doth stde3
have means and a hard tought battle will be

Donald , but from which Nau received no part

Mrs. Jeanette D. Dalley died at 2 o'clock
this morning at the City botel. She was also
among the eary : settlers of the state , coming
to Gage county In 1863 , having resided In
the city during the past thirteen years.
The third death Is that of John Shultz ; a
German resident , 60. years of age. His 'de-
miss was attributed to lung trouble. -

entered the residence of A. F. Lewis but
