CHICAGO , Dec. 10. The news In evidence today was all against the bullsT but the un certainty regarding the government report hail a restraining Influence upon sellers and May whent closed but \'tc lower. May corn Kill tied Uc , May oats closed Uc higher and provisions finished lower all around. Wheat kept within a narrow range. It opened from Uo to Me below Its cloning value on Saturday nnd did not change much afterwards. It wns In the main heavy nil day , and there was much to make It so , In cluding nn Increase of 1,200,000 bu. In the quantity of wheat nnd flour on ocean pas sage and n decline of from ' .id to Id In prices nt Liverpool. Cables from London reported reselling of Husslan wheat there nt less than shippers' prices. A Liverpool llrm cabled that the reports from Argen tine were coming better ns regards their crop prospects. There wns nn Increase of 810.000 bu. In the vls'lble supply of wheat here , nnd Minneapolis and Ouluth got 970 carloads today , compared with 710 cars on the corresponding day of last year. May wheat eold at KHtc at the opening and did not go any lower than Ma during the day. The restraining Influence on the bears was the government crop report , due this after noon. That wns too uncertain a quantity to encourage much felling. The Kngllsh visible supply wns estimated to have de creased 1,387,000 bu. last wcelt , nnd New York reported some filling of orders there for cash whent for export. May closed nt S3"ic. Corn wns strong , considering the weak feeling which prevailed In whent. The re ceipts are giving evidence of falling off. The weakness In the cash article wns the only bearish feature In today's trade. The open ing prlco for Mny wns 49c , nnd It sold at from 49Hc to 494c. After that It worked upward and touched G0'c { for a moment , but wn down again at the close to from 49 c to 49c. > Oats were n. shade firmer In sympathy with corn and probably Influenced by a de crease of D9I.OA ) bu. in the visible. Mny started nt 32c , whereIt closed after Vic fluctuations. The provision market was heavy nnd prices ruled lower. The packers had pro ducts for sale when any one bid for them nnd sometimes did not wait for bids , but made offerings , shading prices. Hog re ceipts were 44,000 head , and nrc estimated nt 33,000 head for tomorrow. Prices nt the close showed the following losses for May delivery , compared with those on Saturday : May pork , 22&c ; lard , 12'fcc ; ribs , 12 > 4e. Dec. 10. Arrivals of stock 'ttftlny were about up to the average for a Jt.o"ndny. There were an even 200 cars In all , a few more cattle and hogs and a few less sheep than- arrived one week ago. The market today was just the reverse of Saturday's trade , as there was neither strength nor activity to the business , not withstanding the very moderate supply. So long as people can get poultry and game so cheap they will prefer It to beef and hence the killers have little Incentive to nil their cooling rooms. There was no urgent de mand , either from dressed beef men or ship pers , although both bought nt prices weak to a dime lower than Saturday. The feelIng - Ing on all sides was very\ weak , and al though a very fair clearance was finally effected the movement throughout was de cidedly sluggish. With cows It was pretty much the same way. only more so. There were all of fifty loads on sale , and they sold at steady to lOc and IDc lower prices all around. The small supply of veal calves failed to stim ulate the market to any appreciable extent and prices were unchanged. Hulls , stags , etc. , ruled weak and lower. There was not much of the weakness In fat cattle notlcer.ble In the stacker and feeder trade. The demand was active , both from regular dealers , country buyers and Btlllers , and prices were strongly -held on all suitable offerings.
