"CHICAGO , Nov. M.-niicouragcdby
steady cables , diminishing northwestern re
ceipts nnd drouth In the winter belt , the
bulls won out In today's battle , May wheat
closing Ho up. Mny corn gained ' c , Mny
oats ' , tc , nnd provisions also made moder
ate gains. Wheat was not so weak when It
opened today us It was nt the close of the
session yesterday. The foreign markets
were firm , notwithstanding the decline of
lo per bu. here. The reports from all parts
of the winter wheat country were that the
dry weather was beginning to Imve a dam-
nglng effect upon the young plants , nnd It
was slated that there were Indications of
a permanent decrease In fanners' deliv
eries In the northwest. The receipts nt
Minneapolis nnd Dtiluth were only 070 cars ,
ns against 906 on the corresponding day
last year. Foreigners were reported to be
more moderate buyers of wheat In New
York. CflHh wheat was In go&d demand
In this nml ntlier markets at prices which
practically Ignored carrying charges. I'rl-
mnry market receipts were heavy. Export
clearances of wheat and Hour from Atlantic
ports amounted to about ffln.OOO bu. The
opening pilro for Mny wheat was from D9'ic
to MHc , and that was the lowest It Bold
nt during the day. It gradually worked up
until It t around COe , and wns playing
between e nnd during the greater
part of the latter half of the session. The
closing iiunliillons were from M'i&c to COc.
Auxtralln Is mlded to the list of countries
having u failure of Its wheat crop this
year , and iiccordlng to a London cable
gram received near the close there will be
but little lo expect from Australia this year
nor next.
Corn was uncxplalnably strong. Receipts
today were Ml cars , or BO cars less than
estimated yestc'itlny , and of that quantity
only about 9 per cent graded contract.
The laltur furl had something to do with
creating a dnmuml from shorts nnd accel
erating the advance. May opened at from
48-o to 4S'ii' ' . nnd gradually improved until
It reached lie. It closed at 48 6c bid.
In oats coinr * strength was noticeable ,
due principally to sympathy with corn ,
but only a fair business was transacted.
May opened n shade llrmer nt 32'4c , sold
nt 32U to 3S , ic and up lo 32c , where It
closed.
The provision mnikct was llrmer on ac
count of rocclplH of hogs running 13,000
head below yesterday's estimate und In
sympathy also with Ihc firmer grain mar
kets. 1'ork , nt the close , showed , a gain
tor the day of 12'/ic , lard 5o nnd ribs of
from ! > c to 7'i.e.

discover any advance , although the move

been for ten days pnsl , lloth shippers and
killers were red hot after supplies , thin
being partly on account of the llsht re

to the very bullish report from Chicago.
The pens were cleared In good season.
The pame stretch and activity character

were Unlit , and all classes of buyers went
right after them , paying prices strong to a

Veal calves ruled dull ut the recent big

In the Mocker and feeder line business
was rather quiet. AH Is usual on the day
preceding n holiday , country buyers were
not very numerous , but what trading was
done was on the basis of fully steady prices
for all suitable grades. Good to choice
feeders are quotable at from fc.70 ! to $3.20 ;
