Tim committee of Investigation which was appointed to look Into the matter ot Inade quate flro protection met in committee room A In the city hall yesterday afternoon to map out a plan of action. No steps were taken In the line of the proposed Investiga tion , the time being occupied by a discussion of the most advisable method to < pursue. Mr. George E. Tlbbs thought that the first thing for the committee to do was to find out Just what the water pressure was and whether It could be so Improved as to afford sufficient protection. It this was decided In the negative , then the committee should recommend the purchase of additional en gines. City Attorney Connell suggested that the legal phases of the matter should be con sidered at the start. They should ascertain just the construction that the courts would put on the present contract with the water works company and then they would be In a position to act advisedly. Incidentally City Engineer Tloaowater was asked If there wasi a certainty that the pres ent system could be Improted by a better distribution of the mains , and this he answered emphatically In the affirmative. He cited one Instance where u twenty-four Inch pipe extended from the old pumping station on Izard street to Ninth and Davenport streets. There It was divided Into two fourteen-lnch pipes. This caused a material waste of pressure , as the combined capacity of the two fourtcen-lnch pipes was nearly 60 per cent less than that of the- large pipe , while the frictions ] resistance was greatly Increased. It was decided to request the attendance of the superintendent of the water works company and of the chiefs of the fire de partment at the next meeting of the com mittee and begin a detailed Inquiry to ascer tain where the trouble lay , taking the Morse-Coo flro as a starting point. The next meeting will not be hold until next Thursday evening on account of the temporary absence from the city of Superin tendent Hunt of the water works company. DISMISSED THE SUIT. Unlm of 12. A. Numerous complaints have been received by the Board of Health In regard to a nui sance at 1108 Farnam street. Through some defect In the se\\er the refuse has been forced out Into the basement and emits an odor that Is continually In evidence. Com missioner Savllle examined the place and has decided that the icfuse which soaks through Into the basement comes from the old sewer. He believes that there are still some wasteplpcs connected with the old sewer , and as there Is no outlet the garbage Is forced out through the soil Into the base- mten. He has recommended that the sewer be taken up to remedy the trouble. Many a clothing store sells goods today for all wool that are not "all wool. " Some of 'em do it through ignorance , and some upon an idea that every man who wants to buy clothing is a sucker and can be caught with a "catch line" of display advertising. We never guess at it when we tell you a thing is all wool you can bank on it. We are selling overcoats just now at $2.75 , that are not wool all through , and we say so , too , but they're cheap at $5.00 , and in fact belter than any $5.00 overcoat you'll get in Omaha. And here is that full length Kersey overcoat at $6.75 , all wool , Now the man who wrote ta this ad. knows that they're all wool , for he took a small piece of cloth from one of these coats and "chewed the rag" because they were ordered sold so cheap. This overcoat is the best value this re markable store ever offered to you. Other overcoats and ulsters are perhaps in pro portion as cheap as the ones we already spoke of. We have 'em in all styles , and all of the rule of this season. Long overcoats , whether they're of a cheap , medium or fine grade , whether $2.75 or the finest swell kersey silk lined at $21.50 they're all of the new school of styles , and above all , new cloth and not old shop worn , gathered up auction stuff , that won't wear long enough to tell of it's birthplace.
