THAT CEiKAL OPENED A SHADE EASIER llcnrnnnei * Prevailing nt the Opening Sou Vlora Off Until-r the bllmulu * of ( onto Cnnlldcnt llnjliii ; bjr CoiiimlMlmi HoiiM-'i , C1IICAOO , Nov. B.-Stronger cables and better foreign demand caused decided linn- ness In vvlient today , December closing % c higher. Corn acted weary and slid down J4c tor May , and Mny oats closed un changed , Provisions were dull , firm nnd higher. Wheat opened a slmde easier on the fcnr that Minneapolis stocks would show 1,300- 000 bu. Increase for the week Instead of 7W- 00) bu. . which wag expected. The bearish ness prevailing at the opening1 noon wore oft under the stimulus of some confident buying by u few prominent commission houses , The market recovered the enrly Blight louses and added 'much more In the shape of gains , after which trading was suspended In waiting for the visible supply figures. The cables came strong and New York wired that there was fair buying for foreign account as soon as business started , Minneapolis received 700 carload ! ! today and Uuluth 33C , or 1,011 together , compared with 1.U15 ti year ago , The visible mil.ply . state ment ulsuijpolnted the bulls , nnd wlu-n enough returns were In to make the crowd reasonably sure the scalpers began to re lieve themselves of long wheat and the crowd , which In the meantime had l > ld us high ns Win for December , sold off again to M-Vc , nnd May , which reached CSc to CXftc , went off to 6S'ic to fiS3c. , The Increase waa 37,830 , bu. , but instead of a further de cline the price began to harden and ulti mately reached a higher point than the ad vance. The tone of the udvlces from out- Bide was In the main strong. 1'rlct-s were up to frl&c for December nnd 5Sc for May nt the close , with both u shade higher be fore the crowd got out of the pit. Corn was heavy even when wheat was nt Its strongest. The opening was fairly Bit-arty , but the dry , cold weather was emi nently favoiable for the curing of new corn. Traders were apparently consldeilng the effect of heavy receipts of new corn. May opened nt from die to fJOTfeC , slowly Ragged to from C0c to GO'/fcc ' , but llrmed up near the close on the strength displayed In wheat. It recovered to WSic and closed at that. Only a fair business was transacted In oats. The tendency of the market early was to weaken In sympathy with corn , but there wns a good demand which was very forward In reta.'n ng the steady feeling. May started at 52'ic ' , touched 32c. and Bold up to from S215c to 32o , where It closed. Covering of shorts started provisions firm nnd the strength of the wheat market helped In keeping the advance going. Clos ing- prices were the best of the day and Bhow the following gains : Pork , 22'Xic ; lard , IDo. and ribs lOc. The estimated receipts for tomorrow : wheat , 130 cars ; corn , 235 cars ; oats. 171 cars , and hogs 225,000 head. A good many of the range steers were , miltable for beef purposes , nnd the better grade found , ready sale at firm figures , while the common grades also sold fairly well , owing to the moderate number offered. Fat steers , cither native or west ern , were In gcod demand , nnd any such offered found ready sale. A good portion of the supply consisted of cows , heifers and rough stock , while the market , outside of best grades , which were tronger , shows no material change from lint of last week.
