Some foreign sign painters nnd advertising
agents have commenced a novel suit against
Charles Shlverlck & Co. , business men
occupying one of the houses near Twelfth
and Douglas streets. The plaintiffs allege
that during the summer of 1893 they leased
the dead walls of the building which Shlver
lck occupied for a term of years , their Idea
being to paint up'on the walls pictures and
legends setting forth the merits ot a certain
brand of tobacco. Soon after tht etFcutlon
of the lease with the owners of the building
the plaint ffa allege that upon the wall thsy
painted a hugo tobacco sign , covering something
thing- like 5,100 square feet.
The sign did not remain lonj ? , however ,
for with force and arms the plaintiffs al
lege that Shlverlck & Co. hired a lot of
painters anil obliterated the pictures during
the night. Again the sign went upon the
dead walls and again It was painted off.
This continued until several hundreds of
gallons of paint had been spread over the
brick work of the building , after which the
plaintiffs tired and went Into court , where
they now uk for an Injunction that will re
strain the defendant from Interfering with
their handiwork.
