CHICAQO , Oct. 12. Dullness wns the most notable feature In the speculative market today. AVlieat drocgcd , while corn and oats limped wearily In Its wake. Prices of the two lending1 cereals averaged below yes'ter- flny'B closing n ures , but were without np- prcclablc cliunfe'e nt the close. Ontw gained lie and provisions were llrm , closing- it ellght advances. Wheat opened lower again , and December , In the course of fifteen minutes trading , weld Us low us from C2'y4c to E2Hc , thus breaking Its previous low record. There was nothing encouraging to the bulls In the early dis patches , which resulted lif the decline men tioned , Liverpool wns quoted dull nnd ' .id lower. Parts was cjuolcd easier and IScrlln very weak at a. decline equivalent to Ic per bu. The receipts at Chicago were Cl cars and Mlnncnpclls-Duluth reported 831 cars , compared with 1,030 a year ngo. An encourag ing feature In the outlook was the report from New York of an Improved demand for new No. 2 red winter , the Inquiry having hitherto been conllned to the various grades of spring. The primary markets received a tctal of TBO.iXX ) bu. , Including 21W , ) l > u. nt Kansas City. Dultith shipped 371,000 Inl and n. dispatch from there to.lny said ves sels hud already engaged to niilp 2,000,000 bu. between now nnd November 15 , and that 2,000,000 bu. more capacity was wanted nt Home concession Jn the rate of freight. There was more solid dullness In the pit here today than In nny of the few pre ceding ; dull' ' days of the week. Thf > range of prices offered for December wns con fined to 52'ic as Us highest point , and from 62V4C to C2 = tc ns Its lowest. During the greater part .of the session the extreme variation was from GlHic , Kellew , to D2V4c , buyers. The premium for May wao for the must part C4c. The market livened up n little toward the closu on it-port of henvy charter of vessels for export. December ad vanced to and closed nt Me , and May at &Se. Although only ? G cars of ccrn were received , In place E20 , na estimated , the market for the article , opened weak In sympathy with wheat. There were sellers of May at from 49VJc toI9r > 4e , compared with JSWc nt the close yesterday. , H de clined to 49ic ! before enough support was forthcoming to Mop It. Boms buying ngulnst puts turned It upward , nnd It was In the main llrm during the remainder of the fore noon. II touched 44c ! The price nnd worke l off to 49p for May , but recovered to 4D.ic. nnd closed nt from 4 % c to 49ic. Oats experienced a quiet and uninteresting se.ss-lon , following corn In nil Its fluctuations , There vrna but little disposition to trade either way. May opened nt 32jc , sold clown to 32c. up to K3c , and back to from 32ic to 32c , closing at 33c. The provision market was weak at the start , but It soon Improved , recovered nearl > nil losses nnd added some profit. The amount of trading WHS small. Chestnuts nrc now quite plenty on the market and the quality la very good. New York Is the great rhestmit nmrket. nnd Iho Dnlly Bulletin wiys of the situation there ; The reported light ciop of clir.itnutu dnei not seem to be verified by Ihe Hupply , as the receipts have been un usually heavy within the past week , though the bulk of the nuts nre coining from the south , hcro a fairly liberal yield Is found. The nuts hnv tctn of very good quality this season , though ncnily all the southern receipts nre dam aged more or lens , except those shipped by ex press. The Increased arrivals to this market MIC atttlbuted In u measure to the fact thnt during the chestnut season two or liree | produce llrms give almost their entire attention to He- curing these nutu , nnd the states where a good erop was expected have been flooded with circu lars and advertising matter nnd a large quan tity of nuts have thereby been nttrncteil direct to this market which otherwise would have been sent to llnltlmore nnd other no.iror markets. Then , again , prices realized In this market have been higher than usual until within the last few days , which has also had n tendency to attract shipments. The express charges are very high , and notwithstanding the good prices here , ninny nuts from far southern points have renl- izcd very little over express clmtges , which range from JI.25 to $2.50 per bu. from Virginia. West Virginia nnd North Carolina , according to the section from which they nro shipped , while by freight from the same sections It costs 75c to 11.25 per bu. to ship them here. PHI DAY , Oct. 12. necelpta of cattle so fnr this week , com pared with la t , Bhow n decrease of nbout 3,200 head. In IIORS , however , there has been nn Increase of something HUe 6,000 heat ] , while 10.DOO would barely cover the In crease In sheep supplies , The supply of cattle was liberal enough , that la , there were plenty of cattle here , such as they were , Ilecclpts Included n string of westerns and several loads of Kansas City Texans that were billed direct to packers nnd not offered for tmle. Offer ings were nearly all western runner ? , the Kenernl quality being rather poorer thnn usual. The demand was good , and the mar ket generally fully steady on the Inferior class of Block offered. With the native steers worth over $3.35 , and westerns that hud to sell at around $2.25 to $3 , there was no opportunity offered to teat the market on good to choice stock. Such would un doubtedly have sold readily nt strong prices. It wtis a very unsatisfactory trade under the circumstances , but there was n falriy firm undertone. The cow trade was not n great deal differ ent from that of Thursday. Supplies were rather liberal , but there was n very good demand from nil sources , nnd while some sales were lower nnd others higher , the gen eral average of prices paid was about the same. Veal calves were In fair request and llrm , but common and large stock ruled dull and weak. The market for rcligh slock of all kinds was just nbout sluady. Low grade utock anil feeding cnttle wore pounded prelty hard loday , as the- yards were full of them , and Ihe demand was not as vigorous as usual. Prices were off fully a dime , and they were not easy to sell at that. Good , smooth , fleshy stock nnd the better grades of. slackers and yearlings sold about us well as at nny lime recently. TradIng - Ing was rather dull , nnd largely nt from K.2o to $2.GO. Good to choice feeders uro quotable at from J2.TO to $3.15 ; fair to good at from $2.40 to $2.70. and common grades from $2.25 down.
