MAY CORN CLOSED THREE-EIGHTHS LOWER tTheat nml Oati Went Down In Sympathy NortliwcDtcrii llccelt | of Wheat IVrre Aciilti n llnrUli I'cntura uf the lny. CHICAGO , Sept. 27. Corn itartetl flrm to- flay , but undtr heavy selling weakened , clos ing % c lower for May. Wheat and oats went down with corn after early advances , wheat finishing unchanged for December and May , oats He lower. 1'rovlslons closed with moderate gains. Another slight Rain In the price of wheat Inaugurated the day's ' business. December toll ] at C3'ic ' shortly after the opening , and held between that nnd D3c for an hour. The noithwcstein recclpts.whlch for some d.iys liate been the most prominent bearish feature In the situation , once more contributed by their bulk to the encouragement of short selling. Minneapolis reported the receipts of 32 cars and Duluth 292 , making together 924 cars compared with. 955 on the corresponding day of the previous jear. Foreign markets were generally called weak and dull at slightly lower quotations. Kansas City mid St. Louis rcporteJ a little export business In wheat. The trading during the forenoon was very light , both on outside and local account. The primary western markets received an aggregate somewhat exceeding 1,000,000 bu. , but of that quantity all but 100.000 bu. ap- prartd at Chicago , Minneapolis and Uuluth. St. Louis , Toledo , Kansas City , Uetrolt and I'eorla received together only 10U.215 bu. The feeting became firmer when the small winter wheat receipts were received , and when the later cablegrams came In , report ing a slightly firmer tone to the Liverpool market , December ro e to fi3053'54c , and touched 1-1 Oc higher than for an Instant before the buying which started In consequence quence of the small winter wheat receipts nnd better tone to the close at Liverpool had exhaust * d Itself. The Atlantic port clearances lor twenty-lour hours were dis appointingly light. The market , after acting strong up to within twenty minutes of the close , began to give way at that point In sympathy with closing weakness In corn , al though New York advised a fair Inquiry for export and sales of seventeen boatloads. After selling as high ae 53ic to 53c , the price of December got' duwn to & 3'fcc , where It closed. Corn was weak at the openlnc at % c to % c below the clrHiiK priceof yesterday. May sold from CO c down to BOc and then le'tled ' for an hour or so at from 50'/4c to 50'ic. When wheat began to show a bolder front corn followed In n similar manner and reacted to & 0e. Tennessee was offering rorn to arrive In St. Louis a thing never heard of before. It was raid. The drouth district In Nebtaska was reported to ba Dfklne Oiimba for bids for old corn and the ra Iroad yaids hero were reported to be crammed full ol lo.ided cars for which there was no storage. I'nder this and other bear- lih Influences , combined with liberal sell- Itifi , the market became very weak near th clo e and dropped nil the gain It had made oft the reaction from the opening prices. It got down to 4tc ! for-May and closed at 4l-/sc ! to GOc. Tiadlng 'n oats' wa < of good volume , although divided up principally In small pucUaM'-- * Higher prices weie tcorcd , led by the advance In wheat and corn. Car- rlngton-Hannah bought quite freely of May. The remainder of the Hading was scattered among local dealers and scalpers. May started from 33 > , ic to 331ic. and gradually advanced to 34c.
