There was n good demanil for beef steers , and the buyers were not long In picking up about ivory thing desirable. The market did not show much ch'nnge , and would have to be quoted as about steady. As compared with other markets , prices here are high. The supply of cow stuff was large , bul none too large to nil the demands ot the buyers. The market was just about steady on cows and mixed stock , as well as on beef steers. There was a liberal supply of s tochers and feeders In the yards , both fresh receipts and cuttle In the hands ot speculators. Among the number were some good fleshy feeders. While there was not much change In the market. It was ctrtainly no lilehcr , and In some Quarters there was an easier feeling , There has been a gradual Increase In the holdings , and the yards are pretty well filled up with cattle of this description. Buyers can find most anything" that they tvant In the way uf stackers and feeders on this mar ket. Representative sales ; DIS.ESSED HCIK No Av. IV. No. A > . IT. No Av. Pr. The Impeachment proceedings against Mayor lie-nils was the dralnq card In tlio courts yesterday ami tlio room Alicr ? Judges Hopiyuell , Ferfiuson and Walton. sat was crowded with lawyers and spectators. Uiir- liig the morning cession nothing WAS done In the way of Introduction of testimony , the en tire time being consumed In arguing the one proposition of the two cuuncllmen to strike out portions of the mayor's answer , on the ground that they were redundant , Irrelevant , Bcnndalous and linnmtcrl.il. Attorneys Tar Hascall and Wheeler laid great stress upon the fact that the mayor had ordered , the expenditure of $132 to old In providing the Kelly army with rood In order to keep the men Ironi Htaivlng. This they maintained \v.is a misappropriation of the- public funds , as the provisions were sent to lov.a. Instead at having keen eaten on Ne braska soil. In reply to this Judge MncCuniljcr , for the mayor , urged that the men In the army of the Commonweal were nil citizens of tlio United States , notwithstanding the fact Dint they were In unfortunate circumstances nnd \vere \ chasing a forlorn hope on their journey to the national capital. In appropriating the $132 the mayor was prompted by the In terests of humanity and he eten went arouml the city and secured the consent of all the members , with the exception of those who were out on the Pacific coast , enjoying the junketing tour. When the men returned from the west oil of the members of the council , e\en Ilmcall nnd Wheeler , voted for the payment of the bills. It the mayor was guilty of the misappropriation of public funds. then certainly these two councllmen were equally guilty. Touching upon the city electrician matter Judge MacCombcr went Into details , describ ing the fight thut had been made upon Cowglll by th"b council. He ulso described the inunnur In which Cow tlll was ousted from ofllce by the repeal of the ordinance creating the ofllce of city electrlau and the subsequent passage of a now ordinance , followed by the appointment of L. II. Itheem , In discussing tlio charges City Attorney Council , for the mayor , held thut It the major was the subject of Impeachment for having done what was charged In the articles every mayor In the land could be bi OUR tit before a judicial tribunal. H ? said that If the mayor v.as guilty of these charges he was also guilty of misappropria tion of funds In the matter of disposing of the smallpox cases that were In the city last springAt that time the mayor ordered the put chase of a tent and articles of furniture , which were placed on a vaca.it lot In the \\estcrn portion of the city. He also Incurred an expense by having the sn nllpox patients transported to that im provised hospital and at the same time hlr < il a nurse to take care of the men. After the men had recovered he ordered the instruction of the property , city property , Nothing , however , was Eiiltl about the major acting In violation of the charter and ordi nances of the city , but. Instead , all ot the councllmen upheld him In what ho had done. done.MATCH'S MATCH'S ANSWER STANDS. Shortly after fi o'clock the arguments were completed and the three Judges retired to their private rorin to deliberate upon the law as it applied ta the case , After remain ing there for half 1111 hour they returned. Judge Walton hantilrtB iloxvii the opinion. Ho said that be and his associates had ex amined the matter with much care and at tention , and that they hud arrived at the conclusion that everything In the answer if Mayor Be miswould be allowed to stand , with the exception cf the paragraph relating to the Pacific coast trip. In which It was alleged that councllmen were out on a jun keting tour arranged by Wheele- and Hascall by securing pledges from corporations to as sist In paying the expenses. This , the judges held , was Irrelevant and t\as not material to the Issues which were to be considered. The dcmuirer to the answer on the ground that It did not state facts sufficient to con stitute a cause of defense , anil the motion la strike ant that portion relating to the electrician , Judge Walton remarked , was overrulsd. Turning to the attorneys for Hascall and Wheeler , Judge Walton asked , "When will jou be ready to file your reply to the answer ? " Attorney Council , for the mayor. Insisted that the other sUU should file Its answer with all possible haste , ns It was a matter cf justice to Mayor Uemis la have the case dis posed of at an early date. Judge Walton urged that the rep'y should be filed this morning , that the Issues might be joined nnd the taking of testimony begin. Ho said that the case was delaying the regu lar business of the term , as two law judges had been called In to assist him , and that there were a large number of jurors unem- pl'yed , whlls their pay was running on the same as though they were at work. Judge McCullocb , for the two councllmen , emphasized the fact that he was not to blame for the delay In joining the Issues , as It was Imposs'blo ' for him to ( lie u reply until after the motion and demurrer had been disposed of In s me manner. He had filed all of the papers In good faith nnd hoped to be able to prove all that was charged In the articles and specifications of impeachment. Attorney Connell Insisted that the prose cution ought to be ready to go on this morn ing , as the drawing of the rtply comprised nothing with the exception of some clerical wort. Judge Clarkson for the two councllmen re plied that the case was too Important to be handled so hastily and ask'd for halt a day in which to prepare the reply. This time was granted and the hearing went over until 2 o'clock this afternoon. The answer of the mayor set up the rec ords In the electric light deal end Je ; manipu lation of the council In the appointing and rejection of the city electrician. In this docu ment the mayor justifies for not appointing another electrician after the rejection of Con gill on the ground that there was a con spiracy between Hnscnll , Wlneler nnd others to secure a man who would work the city lighting business In the Interest of Solon ti. Wiley and the electric lighting company. The demurrer ot Hntcall and Wheeler re lated to portions of the answer of the major with reference to the gambling houses and the purchase of the Ueinls park tract , to gether with the money that was expended to kfcp the members ot the Kelly army from starving when they were quartern ] at the Chautaun.ua grounds In Council I'lutfs , As the answer sMs up the farts and the records as they exist , the nsult of the overruling of the motion and the demurrer U considered as practically disposing of the whole cas ° , as everything connected with the doings of the combine in the council will go In as evidence If the trial proceeds. THE CRIMINAL DOCKET. After disposing of some preliminary and rxparte matters In the criminal section , a string of prisoners from the county jail were lined up before the judge , when they were Informed of the charges against them , The men ho called and the charges were an follows : Mike Lally and flcorge W , Copeland , lar ceny from the person ; Hurley Johnson , bur glary and grand larceny ; William M.
