duction In Iron and steel Is In advance of
current demand. The uncertain factor In
the problem ot prices Is the extent ot the
accumulated order * that have supported the
operations of furnaces , steel works nnd Iron
mills for a monlh or more. New demand
since the passage ot the tariff bill hag not
aggregated enough , or hns It been of the
character to warrant the- belief that a
strong revival Is In progress. With a pro
ducing capacity In Iron nnd steel built and
gauged for prosperity. It must not be ex
pected that there will bo nn Immediate ex
pansion of buying from the shrunken vol
ume of a year of depression to a volnmu

nace , converting ind rolling plants. It Is
generally conceded that the output of most
mills In the i ist month will exceed three-

Ward , tlie ex-banlter who Is charged with the
attempted abduction of lila 10-year-old son ,

porter , to whom ho related his version ot the
affair. lie stated that while he was In Sing

unil naming Sir. Ward's brother as guardian
of the child. Before Ward's release Mrs.
Ward died , and , Ward being on an extended
Kiiropean tour , Ilia property went Into th8
hands of the public administrator , who Im
mediately named F. J. Otceti of Thbmpson ,
Conn. , as guardian , allowing him about $2,000
a year for the boy's support and education.
Upon his release from SlnK Sing , Ward was
notified by Green that ho might have pos
session of the boy. but lie was not then sit
uated so ho could give him a suitable home ,
Later , however , when he had settled In
Ilrooklyn , where ho Is now employed as an ,
accountant , he sent for his son and Green
llatly .jrfused to give up the boy. Want
lias mailo repeated attempts to secure Green's
content and failed , and , being determined to
get the child In his own hands , ho planned
and helped to execute the abduction which
would give him what ho claims li the legal
right of guardianship of till own son. The
property , amounting to over $75,000 at tba
time of Mrs , Ward's death , was placed In
control of the Holland Trust company of
New York and still remains there. Ward
declares that he will continue his efforts to
secure possession of It Is son until nuccesgful.
