heavy receipts as a cudgel , pounded pr'ces
down a * follows. * ic In wheat , % In c.rn ,

Wheat started weak nnd failed to recover
the opening decline. The receipts ot corn
being quite as heavy as had been istlmat d
jeKterilay , had a depressing effect upon that
co'cal. and sympathetically on wheat also ,
The Liverpool market was quoted rather
weak and ' /id lower al the opening. Derlln
xvas jald to bo 14 marks Uwcr , and I'arls
was quoted ste.-uly. Chicago receipts were
171 carload * . Jllnncapolla reported 213 ca"s
nnd Duluth GG3 cnrs , a total of 706 cars nt
the two latter places , compared with 708
car * on the corresponding day ot List year.

temporarily to about the opening figures , but
got down again to the previous lowest price

sellers near the closei when wheat was hang
ing around HG'/jC. and ( hey succeeded , with
the help ot the general crowd , vvh'ch ' had
then become unanimously bearish , In closing
the market at GGc , the luvvest price of the
day.Corn
Corn started very heavy on the full reall-
yatlon ot yesterday's cstlinat-d iccslpta. The
estimates were for 425 cartr , nnd 453 cars
wire received. There was a grcat deal f r
sale by the prominent commission houses
who had been prominent In the buying for
ten days previous. May opened with sellers
nt from Gl'/Sc. to Glc , with a paleot ono or
two 1 ts at Glc about the sume time. It
declined gradually until It reached 54c , and
after a stubborn reslstanc : at tl'o latter price ,
It finally succumbed to the Influence of to
morrow's estimated receipts and broke to
fj3'io end closed at G3c.
The oats market was quite act'vc ' during
the early part ol the s sslon , when thTc were
heavy offerings of I ng stuff , but , after the
few buying orders had been filled and prices
lowered , business became quiet , with only a
fair trads having been transacted. The de-
cllno In values and the easier feeling were
principally causfil by the action of corn.
May startel from 35c to3Gc nnd sold down
to 3GJc. At non It hud advanced again to
3&c. closing at 35c.
The provision market opened weak nt from
Co to 7&c decline all around un pork , lard
and ribs. There v > as a strong drive made
nt the market , when corn was showing weak
ness and when the sellers had succeeded In
getting provisions on the run th y kept push
ing their advantage until closing prices In
pork showed n loss for January ilellvery of
27 ,4c ; lard , 12V6o and ribs 12V4c. The day's
receipts of hogs were light , as had been es
timated , at 15,000 head , and for tomorrow
11,000 head ot the estimated run. A Blight
rally occurred when the sh rts bofan to take
profit s , but the raid was again renewed near
the close , nnd the lowest prices of the day
again became current.

OATTlvn The arrivals of cattle were
lighter than yesterday , an I only about half
tu large as the receipts of last Friday , There
MIS practically nothing In the market In
the way of good beef steers , the receipts con
sisting principally of stocKem , feeders , cows
and canncrs. There was a good dentantl for
beef stiers , and had there bo.-n anything
deslr.iblo In the yards , It would , without
doubt , liave brought strong prices. The
buyers claim that beef steers are selling
lilghcr here In proportion , than 111 other
markets It Is claimed that a bunch of cat
tle for which $3.iri wati offered here sold In
an eastern market at $2.85 , and another
bunch on which $3.70 was refused here sold
In another eastern market at $3 r > 0 A good
many more beef stelrs could be used hire If
they were to be had.
There were finite a few cov\s In the yards ,
but the demand was fully equal to the sup-
lily , and anything that suited the bujers
brought good , strong prices. The cow marUct
has been gradually working up , and while
the advance has not been large on any one
ilny , when comparisons arc made with the
low point a few days ago a decided gain will

The stockers and feeders were In moderate
supply , while there was a very active de
